Being harassed in game

Ok so I’m kind of at my wits end here with this one.
This guy has been harassing me non stop.
It started with him ./point ./spitting on me randomly while afk at the SW bridge where you port in, I came back and saw him standing there spamming that at me… I asked what his problem was and had I done anything to annoy him off and that I suffer from anxiety and other mental health problems and the abuse started with him calling me a r-word and that I shouldn’t be playing games on the internet if I didn’t have the mental capacity to put up with it…not even joking that’s what he said…I’ve tried reporting and ignoring him but he makes new characters to harass and abuse me which I report instantly.
From there it has escalated to him asking to meet up irl to fight, and spamming my characters name in ./4 saying I have been sending nude pics to his underage daughter which is completely false. Ive even had a few warnings from Blizzard about “my behavior” which I imagine is just him getting people to report me based on this complete BS he keeps posting…
This has been going on for two weeks now.
He was banned last week for saying terrible unrelated (to me) stuff in ./4 (which a guild member told me about) but he is back at it today trying to tarnish my name in ./4.
I have been screenshotting all our interactions but unfortunately since there are no game masters I’m not getting anywhere with the reports.
I’m hoping a blue will see this and be able to do something.
Please help…

You’ll want to edit this and remove the name, that is not allowed.

Start an ongoing harassment ticket. For now just keep putting the guy on ignore and literally ignore him. Do not engage him or his alts.

First off, please remove the player’s name from your post. It is against the rules to name and shame, and that they’re already harassing you doesn’t give you a free pass to do so as well.

I would also censor some of the language of his you’re relaying too. I promise I’m not trying to be a nag, I just don’t want you getting in trouble in trying to get assistance here.

The biggest thing is that he is circumventing the ignore system. I would open up a.ticket under in-going harassment, list any other ticket numbers you’ve gotten from your previous tickets and really drive home that he is circumventing the ignore system and list any and all names-realms he is whispering you from.

That you are ignoring him each time is perfect, but above all else DO NOT RESPOND TO HIM. That makes your interaction consensual and lessens your claim of harassment.

  1. I would recommend removing the name as it is considered as Harassment with name-calling.
  2. Place the user on ignore. You can also report the player for the communication and harassment.
  3. I would also remove some of the language out of the post.

Apologies name removed…
I also edited the post to remove any language apologies for that.

We all here are trying to help, and the last thing anyone here wants is forum account action towards you for what you’re experiencing. As mentioned, use the links provided by either Jeysca or me, and report it, so the Game Master can help you in resolving this so it can stop.

I would’ve also advised it would’ve been better not to engage in the first place, and would’ve been better to ignore them first instead of engaging with them.

I hope that this all helps, and hope that it can be resolved so you can have fun playing World of Warcraft without any harassment made in-game towards you.

Yes thank you for the help I appreciate it, he’s really starting to wear on my mental health and I find myself just sitting there trying to defend myself in chat most days…

Report and ignore. Do not, under any circumstances acknowledge, respond to, or engage with this person in any way, for any reason. Do this for any friends or bystanders they may recruit to their harassment efforts.

If any of the ignored players circumvent your ignore list to continue the behavior report for ongoing harassment.

Which, sadly, is what they want. It gives them the ammunition they need to keep doing it.

These days I turn off/leave all chat channels and go about my game play in relative peace, and eventually they’ll continue running their mouth in chat channels and others will begin to grow tiresome of it - ultimately doing more damage to their reputation than the person they’re harassing.

Hi I just wanted to say that I have tried three times to open a ticket doing this and it never goes through.
It just takes me back to the previous screen. And no ticket appears in game.
I triple checked to make sure everything is filled out properly and then hit submit.
I then check my open tickets and nothing is there…

Edit - could this be because of addons? I’ll try disabling them all and trying again.

Have you tried doing on the website? The website is more of the better way to do it.

Try though via the website. It might be easier.

You shouldn’t have done that, put him on ignore an walk away.

Unfortunately, you should have kept that to yourself. You just gave him more ammunition to torment you with.

Report him for language for that, guarantees a time out for him.

Then you submit a continuing harassment ticket.

Not saying Blizzard won’t do anything about it, they will, but there are some horrible people out there. Also, you can also report them to the police, Blizzard is quite cooperative when it comes to that.

Natalaya, use this link to open a harassment ticket. I hope things improve for you.

To clarify, behavioral warnings are based on the number of reports received which is meant to call attention to potential behavior that could lead to further action, but any action taken is verified first. So yes, you can get a “hey, check your behavior you are getting reported” warning, but if you aren’t actually violating policy you likely won’t hear anything else.

Now with that said…

I’ve run some chat logs for the past two weeks or so and this exchange goes on for awhile.

Neither of you are in the clear. You are making accusations about them in public channels and they are of you. It is more likely the public accusations is what caused the behavioral warning, since it really isn’t appropriate and most people don’t want that drama in their public channels.

Your story about “how this started” doesn’t appear to be entirely accurate as you claimed it was a friend who was targeted, not you. As I understand it, it was the behavior towards that friend that seems to have started all of this which I understand, but all of the back and forth causes complications.

Your friend should have reported the person initially, I’m sorry if they didn’t, as we likely could have curbed most of this early on.

The proper course of action is to place the person on ignore and keep them there. If they circumvent that ignore by using a different account or continue the harassment in public channels you’ll want to submit a ticket under “Ongoing harassment”.

The most important thing is not to engage, and stop harassing them in public chat as well. What you both are doing is called mutual combat, which can nullify an ongoing harassment accusation since you are technically harassing each other at that point.

I understand that you are concerned about them talking about you in public chat and if that happens and you hear about it, report is under Ongoing Harassment. This is about establishing a pattern of behavior. If that behavior continues the penalties for it get harsher over time.

I want to note that talking to them about the thread you created here isn’t helpful and no blue told you to stop interacting while we investigate. O.o

It would be a grand idea to stop interacting though, that is excellent advice for all involved.

There are very much Game Masters, but they don’t take screenshots as evidence. They can use them as a basis for the investigation but all evidence has to come from our logs.

Please, stop interacting with the person, stop talking about them in public and place them on ignore. If they continue to try and contact you or talk about you disparagingly, report it via the Ongoing Harassment ticket.

agreed. they did this to my alt a long time ago too. i saw them spamming in general chat, then i took it away and put ignore. i never spoke back since.

it was an insult what the punk did. you see, it’s wrong. not all people are perfect in this world.

Hi Vrak, Just to clarify, Mierin is me, I was making up I had a friend to him in my chats to try to elude him… If you check my character list you will see this is true and I literally just paid to change Mierins character name…
Thanks so much for me having to say this here so now he knows that name also.

You are correct in saying I should of just ignored him from the start and i will do that in the future but to try and say I am lying based on you non-existant evidence is disgusting, I’m quite appalled at your skill level with dealing with these types of situations.
Additionally YOU have made ME seem like I am a liar to the forums which is also horrible.
I haven’t been deceitful about anything to you or the forums in my post.
And frankly I’m quite disappointed you couldn’t even be bothered to see who Mierin was. Or look up Mierins chats to him to see how this all started.

I did ignore him, I did take him off, i have said things about him publicly for being disgusting and to defend myself in ./4. Which I said here.
Mierin is NOT my friend its ME.

Terrible service.

Wow.

No, they only told you what they saw.

Since Vrak did not have this further information, how on earth can you play the victim card against a forum moderator here?

Uh huh.

I think they did.

You’re really not helping though.
