Behavior warning while idling (doing nothing)

This is the wildest thing, I logged on Retail WoW for the first time in like months, I took a flighpath to Ironforge while I was doing something and I came back to getting flagged for a behavior warning???

What is this?

I didn’t type, I didn’t do anything, I’m guildless and my name is appropriate for an RP server

How does this happen?

Other then the warning can show on any character on your account, there would be no way to tell. Only if it requires investigation by a GM, who would issue a penalty, no one could really say what prompted it. Then if that penalty was a silence or suspension, you could appeal.

I get that, it’s just crazy to me that I was idling. Does that mean someone walked up to my character model and clicked on my portrait? I wasn’t interacting in any channels, whispers or even my own private battle.net messages.

No. It can be any character on your account that got reported. Classic or Retail, does not matter. Next login you very well may get the warning that was queued.

I didn’t have a warning before I took the flightpath though, I know that for certain, I was in Stormwind, flew over to the flightmaster and took the flightpath to Ironforge, it was during that period of time where I was afk, that I got the message

Were you by chance idling on the lawn of a grumpy rural working man? They’ve been known to fire off a warning shot or two.

Not at all, I was looking up where to find the heirloom vendor on Alliance, minding my own business. I have 0 things typed in /say or channels. It’s a weekday morning on a Monday, I’m just as surprised as you are

TBH, a behavior warning pop-up only means a certain number of players have issued a communication or behavior report about you in a fairly short time period. It doesn’t mean the reports were valid or actionable.

There are a lot of dimwitted conspiracy theorist players who blindly believe streamer lies and believe they can get a player banned without GM intervention by spamming reports. Sometimes it’s for teh lulz – simple amusements for simple minds. Sometimes it’s to remove someone they think is a competitor, like someone questing where they’re farming.

Unless a GM agreed, you have nothing to fear.

But I don’t even know what I did, on classic or retail. I had 0 interactions on retail like I said, and on classic I did some arenas with 2 of my guild friends (in voice) last night, so no typing was involved. I don’t know what I did to earn a false flag in the first place

You’re missing the point. Trolls can report for absolutely no reason. All they have to do is know you’re in the zone so that they can select you to use the “report player” menu item.

You don’t have to do anything more than be logged into the game.

A warning is just that - a warning. If you were doing something at some point that you recognize would merit it, then you should stop. If you really weren’t doing anything at all, then you’ve got nothing to worry about.

False flagging won’t have any bearing at all on your account. At the very worst, it may earn you a squelch - a temporary silence on your account. That squelch will only be in place long enough for a real live GM to look over the reports. Like the warnings, a squelch does not leave any noticeable mark on your account, save for it inconveniencing you. Now, if a GM agrees with these reports, that squelch could be upgraded to a silence or suspension - which are sanctions and will leave a black mark on your account. If the reports were indeed false and you were breaking no rules and the GM sees that? The squelch will be dropped and there will be no record of these reports marked against your account.

I’m not a streamer though, or anyone prominent on WoW, I’m just a casual retail player! It’s just confusing to me, is all

Who you are doesn’t matter to the trolls that report others for no reason at all.
