Been inactive due to broken PC lost guild leadership, current leader won't give back

All you would have had to do to prevent that was log on every couple of months. Otherwise, the guild is theirs now…nothing you can do about it other than try to talk to them about it.

see the thing is he was a rank 8…he didn’t have any special roles at all.

Consider this a learning experience for when you get a guild with more to lose.

People exactly like this guilds members who had their GM go MIA for almost a year.

It’s not your fault. It’s Blizzard’s fault. It’s just bad design. But there’s nothing you can do. They’ve been letting people steal guilds for years.

You may have to either go for the long term approach, or move on. At the end of the day, it’s a game. You have to decide what your time is worth.

Taking something someone abandoned isn’t stealing no matter how you want to pretend it is.

Solution: Don’t abandon your guild, or make someone you trust the temporary leader until you can get back.

The system allows an active member of the guild to claim leadership if the GM is inactive for 3 months. This person was afk for 11… You should find a better place to try and fan this particular flame.

Hard disagree

Now you gotta wait for them to go inactive for 11 months and steal it back, and then the cycle continues…

Call it what you want. It’s theft.

I’m honestly not sure what you expected to happen having been gone for a year.

It’s upsetting your PC broke, but it’s great your guild wasn’t disbanded. The guild has a new GM and they don’t want you back in the chair.

That’s all you need to know bud, let it go, make a new guild and move on.

Technically it’s not theft. You can’t steal an organization. Technically it’s usurping.

Like when someone is muscled out as CEO.

There’s a really good solution we used to have for this. It’s called calling your GM on the phone and asking him to log on and pass lead or give someone permission. I know it’s a social solution. Very scary.

Imagine expecting people to give their phone numbers to randos in their WoW guild.

Nothing. You don’t.

They can’t help.

Officers should have a way to get a hold of the GM outside of the game

They can’t help.
Even if they could, they wouldn’t help.

You went inactive. You got “dethroned”. It’s how it works. It’s how it should work.

How is this fair to the person that was active while you weren’t playing?

It is entirely their fault.

Bad design?
It seems OP’s original guild is still active.
If this “bad design” didn’t exist, it would be dead, with no assets.
Possible social circles and relationships broken because one person goes inactive is not fair.
