Because of layering , count me out

Say they end up putting in layering. Time passed, we’re in a few weeks or months arriving at P2, and they take it out. Populations somehow are exactly as smoothly dropped off as planned.

What is going to secure the severs stability now, with layering gone? Classic at that point may as well be out fully for 2 years or so, no one knows atm.

During the whole rest of the games life, without layering, do you expect the servers to remain just as stable as they somehow ended up to be when layering got taken out?

What’s gonna happen when there are low pop realms during the life of classic, that could need merging? Is it fine to merge it then? Communities already are stronger than ever at that point, because they were closed off into 1 realm with a low vanilla realm pop for a long time, making it even more tight knit.
What then? Put in layering again, and put all the low pop realms into one bunch?

Communities died with CRZ. Take a note on when the realm forums died.

No one is thinking about the long game here.

Wow players have always had to worry about what realm they chose.
Since I’ve been playing ESO I can appreciate the megaserver technology.
Dead community is something I never need to worry about.

And we did have a community event…server wide. The devs gave us a challenge. We, the megaserver community, worked together (just like the AQ event) and not only met it but beat the numbers they set for us.

“Community” is what you make it.

I genuinely hope people will start to do that though.

Because if Classic’s done right, it has the potential to lift up the whole genres quality standards, and be a massive success for Blizzard, the players, and any MMORPG fan out there who had no real options for a proper game like that for so long cause there was nothing like old WoW out there.

Wrong.

The realms that got connected were basically on life support before CRZ.

I would know because I was actually on one such realm.

Connected realms show up separately in the realm list, and names have a suffix (ex. -Exodar), so it is not a complete merger. If I rolled a new character on realm A connected to B, I might be surprised unless I had previously researched which realms were connected.

I wasn’t on a dead realm. I was on an unbalanced realm.

Outright merging them would not have saved them either way.

In fact it would have pissed people off.

Even in vanilla with the transfers and migrations they did they didn’t save their servers.

Pretty sure all the servers that got transfers in vanilla ended up getting merged/connected later. Where as the higher pop ones are still do this day high pop stand alone servers.

Layering is not going to prevent dead realms.
Layering is for phase 1 only.
What about the rest of the game ?

Trust me dude, no one cares. Bye. Go back your pathetic pserver. More room for the rest of us.

No one cares about what ? dead realms ?

Responding to OP. Sorry.

I’ve been gone for a while. Is layering the new sharding?!

It’s 2019, not 2004-2005. Serveral years of data spawned this idea, I wouldnt expect Blizzard to suggest it if it weren’t really needed. I can show you proof of the calamity that happened on launch day+month.

I equate it to this. Would you go back to using a flip phone vs a new iphone or android? Probably not. This is where we are, in 2019. Some things you just have to live with.

Why the hate? You know he’s asking for the same game they announced at Blizzcon, which everyone was incredibly hyped for?
I guess suddenly that justifies to treat a fellow player who’d have maybe been in Classic with you like dirt huh? Just cause he doesn’t want layering, something that never was in Vanilla.

I’m glad i’m in EU and don’t have to share a server with people like you, who are here defending this change to the original game so aggressively, that you justify acting this way towards someone who is clearly a fellow passionate player and fan of Vanilla WoW/Classic.
Not surprised anymore we’re going down this road, where giving up on building a proper community in the first months is worth it according to you people, considering you can’t even treat nor recognize your fellow players with human decency even now.

I mean, if we don’t get what they promised and layering screws everything, we’ll just unsub. I’m out $14, but they lose more.

Layering is the new sharding. It is supposed to work like a bigger sharding system but has a lot of flaws right now. It isn’t going anywhere. People should hope for blizzard to get the bugs ironed out rather than hoping they ditch it for something else.

Isn’t that basically what were all trying to do here with Classic?

This is what I’ve been talking about. All I want is Classic anyway.

The problem I see is that the system they want to use to “test” the waters is likely to be the thing that kills the whole thing if it does tank.
