Meh, i switched to windowed-fullscreen years ago cause it seemed to make alt+tab function better, honestly I have no idea why so many people are making a big deal about this

Because we complained about it? Literally we whined like petulant children about any sort of gap between the final patch and the new content, demanding that they pick up the pace.

I get huge FPS issues with windowed fullscreen. FPS issues I never had before when Fullscreen functioned just fine.

I don't get why people keep asking "What the big deal is?" This has been stated in many other threads among other issues people are experiencing as a result of fullscreen being removed. Its not just a simple change like faster alt-tabbing for everyone. The game is literally unplayable for some people or at the very least very uncomfortable to play.

I haven't played the game in Full screen mode since Cataclysm. So it's no skin off my nose.

I tried that, and at least on a Mac there's no effect. I played with a number of different settings.

Only thing that makes any difference at all is to ensure WoW is running at the maximum native res of my monitor (which is higher than I generally use) because ANY sort of scaling kills performance by over 50%.

Wrong. The day before the patch the game ran fine. The day after I'm now having performance drops, stuttering frames when turning in certain locations, and asset hitching where something loads slowly (and I'm running the game on an SSD.)

Applications that run in exclusive fullscreen have direct control over the video hardware, and OS elements stop being rendered while the application is up. This allows more of your system's processing power to be devoted to it. When you run an application in a windowed mode, the application has to send commands to a middle-man (DWM.exe) to tell it what it wants rendered and where. In addition OS elements remain rendered even if they're not visible. These lead to performance drops and other issues. And that's just concerning a basic setup. When you start including stuff like SLI and multi-monitors, you're going to get into more problems.

EFS fundamentally works differently than W or WFS modes. If you do not understand the technical issues behind them, don't tell people there's no problem and it's just our systems.

Blizzard put back EFS in DX11. No reason it should of been taken away. WFS people wouldn’t be effected by this and you would fix this huge mess you created.

Lol this company knowingly removed a core setting in their game that would negatively affect performance for a large amount of their customers. Who is the head executive or lead game design manager green lighting crap like this?

They should at least put the option back in.

That being said, i got a 5% boost in both CPU usage and GPU usage with DX12.

Even if it took a while for them to put it back in I would feel a lot better knowing we will get it back at some point. The whole situation is just very frustrating. Especially with BFA being just a few weeks out.

Remember when Blizzard removed the ability to use MSAA, and instead forced us to use the crappy CSAA? (Antialiasing)

It's like they're just LOOKING to take away the good things that made wow awesome. This dev team is a lost cause. Clueless lawyers -- not a single good game developer around there anymore who understands what FUN is.

I have a 1060 gtx / i5 8400 and I used to run 100 fps + in bgs with medium/high settings. Now I go like 40 or below on low in team fights and it is the worst thing ever. I shouldn’t need to go get an overclocked cpu to play WoW smoothly of all games.

Don’t tell me you have my set up and run 100+ fps because I’m going to ask you if you get that in BGs where both teams are clashing and then you won’t respond because that would be admitting you don’t know how to read.

I have 398.36 installed as well.
