can battle net balance be used for subscription? I gave friend some battle net moneys to pay for her sub while they wait for new card but says they cant use it.
No.
Balance is only available for 60 days gametime and for subscription you’ll need to use a card or bank etc.

You can use it to purchase the 60-day block of game time from the Shop.

Be aware they will need to cover any taxes or fees that their country, state, district, etc. may impose for online purchases. So they will need enough Battle Net Balance for the entire purchase.
For example, if I were to purchase the 60-day game time block from the Shop it would cost me $32.39 USD due to my state taxes.

To answer this, chances are they’re likely just conflating the two terms and using them synonymously.
Battle.Net Balance is a finite currency, and subscriptions need a theoretically unlimited source to be a valid payment method. Subscriptions cannot be funded by Balance.

You can’t, mainly because a subscription need a form of payment (like your bank account card) to charge. You’re thinking of a block of time.

When they make the purchase they will be given a choice of which WoW license they wish to apply it to via the Shop. The second screen will be the payment selection, so they will need to choose Battle Net Balance as their payment source.
Walmart carries 60 day time card that mite be a beter option.

already purchased the battle net balance. plus they live in another state.
Another way people use non-standard funds, would be the token system. Depending on your geographical location, a token purchased from the AH can be used to either add 30days of game time, or add battle.net balance. They may be active players and simply buying tokens with gold to convert to game time.
