I do a crappy job sitting bases in RBG. Any tips for what the strategy is? Does it take 8 seconds to cap a flag?

You shouldn't be sitting as a paladin anyways. There are better candidates imo. The best advice I have though is stay a good distance from the flag. Use your trinket and divine shield wisely. Download battlegroundtargets and constantly click on the boomkins and rogues on their team. Be vocal. If someone is missing off the map and you feel your base is threatened call it out and have someone either rotate or float. A big problem in these games are that people think calling for help makes them appear as a bad player when in reality you really do come off as a bad player when you lose the base and don't say a word. Hope this helps. Feel free to shoot me any more questions specifically and I'll do what I can to help.
Edit: Constantly click on the boomkins and rogues to know if they're missing from the team fight. Basically just have good awareness. That is another big part of the battle aside from being vocal.

Appreciate it. Just learned recently about checking with BGtargets and I've been working on that. Is the trick to not ever trinket sap? Or just run Relentless maybe? I probably call for help too much tbh.

Never trink sap, cause they'll just blind after. Trick is to not stand right on the flag so you don't get sap capped.

I can BoP or bubble out also but eventually they keep coming back and catch me without CDs.

Do you call for backup? It's okay to do that too, easy clear out if it's 2v1

You should be standing far enough away from the flag where you can get sapped but still not give the rogue enough time to get back to the flag and cap. If you trinket a sap you’re sitting a full blind and you will get capped on. If you’re out of cooldowns make another player on your team sit with you until either your bubble or trinket is up again.

Call it out dude.
Base sitting is about preventing but the main thing to be done especially once you’re past 2k is having someone get there in time.
It’s not about you stopping it yourself and stopping it forever without someone peeling off to help. Do not let some baddies in the lower brackets tell you otherwise.
You have more outs than most but have disadvantages as well. Keep in mind smokebomb is dangerous because if a rogue uses it don’t run all the way up to it. The rogue will just restealth sap you. The smokebomb is bait to scare you in.
Smoke bomb doesn’t cover the full time to cap the flag so be ready to get an ability off. You don’t have much time so get as close as possible but be prepared to move back if you see the rogue vanish or restealth.
Understand this.. your trinket/bubble/bop is to buy time for a teammate to get there to kill the rogue or enemies. Period. It’s to buy time for them to peel. Not to stop the threat. And as others have said don’t sit the base by yourself without those things up.

Also with what aythx is saying watch for boomies, hunters, dhs, and multiple rogues. These are the typical classes to double team bases.
What I do if I sit is set focus the boomy or hunter or dh that is team fighting and rogue if they are team fighting which isn’t often but if they do it helps, because you can watch the focus frame and target or click on another frame to monitor two at once.
Look for frames disappearing meaning they stealthed and look for mount icons etc etc

Welcome to the base sitting club =(
Shouldn’t be base sitting as pally. But, as they said, just make sure you are far enough from flag, so the rogue would have to sap you, then run to flag to start capping. Like 20-30 yards is about right.
Every class should know how to solo sit vs 1 dps of every class with full cd's (hold for 25 seconds for someone to show up and help)
Every sitter should know when they don't have the cd's to last long enough to sit vs the potential hitters on the other team.
Every sitter should be aware of who on the other team is stealthed (using bge) and who is sitting (or supposedly sitting but stealthed and you are not sure)
I constantly click through targets, with stealthies and dh's being the primary clicks, but cycling through others as well periodically.

I use both bg callouts and reporter when sitting in yolos. They offer 1 button callouts with details and you don't have to type.
Standing far enough away from the flag is key.

Trick is not trinketing sap and standing far enough away that they don't have time to sap/cap before it wears off, but close enough that you can hit them with a ranged ability to stop them from caping when the cc ends.
Generally you'll be using judgment for that, but you may want to stand slightly closer so you can use steed + blade of judgement incase they smoke bomb or use cloak of shadows.

Wow, thanks for this.
I used an different one before but it hasn't been updated in quite a while.
BG callouts is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
Also, at the bottom of reporter it has 12345 or 5+ inc tabs. Plus there are more call out options for each node on each map.
