Bards make zero sense in WoW

Friendly reminder that this game has not one but two canonical rock bands in it.

If that’s what they were they’d be kinda cool.

It goes beyond that though; Have you ever fought alongside a Bard in a major storyline in WoW? Has a Bard ever done anything pivotal in the history of Warcraft? Have we ever seen a Bard show up and do something important in a WoW cinematic or in any Warcraft story?

The answer to all of those questions is no. So why would we get a class based on them? There’s no history of such characters in the entire history of Warcraft. Yeah we got some random NPCs called “Bards” but that’s all they are. They’re like the guys who serve drinks in a tavern or stand guard outside of Stormwind. Just normal dudes doing a normal job. They’re not heroes or adventurers in any sense of the word.

So while they may fit the fantasy in other games, they don’t fit the fantasy of Warcraft, and that’s a good thing.

Also it’s rather hard to be a cool class when there’s no cool Bard hero in the entire franchise. All we have is a spoof character based off of a garage band of Blizzard employees.

Lots of rock bands in real life but I’ve yet to see anyone’s wounds restored by a sick guitar solo or someone destroying an incoming army by playing the drums.

They’re very cool. Heck, they’re a better class than Demon Hunters.

I agree with your statement, but it seems like the best reason to make one

Lots of warriors IRL but I’ve yet to see one leap up a flight of stairs.

If they were canonical they would do more than sit in Darkmoon Faire and play their whack music all day. We’d have them down in Khaz Algar giving us and helping us in quests, dungeons, and/or raids. The fact they’ve never done that shows that they’re not canonical.

This is true but these kinds of powers have long been established as things you do see in WoW. Where “magical music” really hasn’t. So I was noting that much like IRL music doesn’t have any established reason for being more than music in WoW.

Having rock bands doesn’t suddenly make bardic magic a thing was the point.

Why? What can they bring to the table that another class couldn’t bring?

We got dragons that can do support. We don’t need some clown in tights playing a violin.

  • No major lore to support them, sure.
  • Does music magic fit into wow, as much as the rest of the magical nonsense we have. Also, Radiant Song.
  • Could they be very cool, yes.

Okay, what makes “musical magic” different from standard magic? We have multiple classes that can perform “musical magic” currently, like Priests and Divine Hymn.

Using the term (blank)-slop is officially the sloppiest thing you can do imo.

It’s common terminology for things clearly made by AI that saw no effort to refine it before posting.

I am not asking for this, but I think of a support-role like EQ bards. Twisting songs to grant benefits to friends (haste, for example) and harmful effects to enemies (slows in attacks/spell casting). Add in the ability to have your group run faster on foot by using a certain song between packs or after the unfortunate wipe. It may not fit in lore but can certainly expand the 3rd DPS/support role.

If spoken words are spells, then sonic vibration can do the same.

Meerah was my bard when she sang the dolly and dot song.

It made me happy
