Bards make zero sense in WoW

There’s no Bard heroes, there’s no major Bard character, and there wasn’t even any Bard characters in the TTRPG. They serve no purpose, and their abilities can all be done in existing classes.

People really should stop asking for such a goofy class that doesn’t fit into the character and theme of Warcraft. If you gotta do Bards, make it a profession where people write songs and craft instruments.

I’d argue that E.T.C from HoTS could be considered a Bard. Bards in wow don’t have to be the traditional lute playing fancy singers, they could be straight up metal which I’d think would fit WoW a little better.

This. Also I think its funny that you try and say bards are covered but people keep asking for tinkers which is far more covered already with what is in game.

Bards with a heavy metal guitar solo as a major damage cooldown > boring tinkers.

we’re writing history, that doesn’t mean nothing ever changes/gets introduced

The biggest con against it, is I can see it basically being 2/3 Evoker specs, either doing magic damage via sound and music, or beign another augmentation spec that doesn’t do damage itself but just heals/bolsters others.

There’s also the traveling minstrel/mad jester trope, but those could easily be Rogue specs since they tend to be masters of disguise and daggers.

That’s my biggest gripe, signed- Herne, world renown bard.

If this is about that fake survey, it’s been debunked as AI slop for a while now :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s been a few hints here and there that suggest magic through sound and music is a viable path in WoW.

It could happen but you’re right that it’s not well-established at all in Warcraft lore and worldbuilding. Most people asking for it are thinking of D&D bards.

If they want to do Bards AFTER Tinkers, Necromancers and Spell Breakers then I am fine with it but traditional wow ideas should come first.

Hey if evokers and dracthyr can just be pulled out if thin air why not bards. We could ever have rock and roll dwarves to go with them.

…but will they tank?

We have goblin and gnome faction leaders that are tinker. There isn’t any bard heroes or major characters in World of Warcraft as far as I know of.

I agree…

But after what they pulled with evokers and the new class in D4, I’m not sure Blizz understands that concept

Imagine thinking that a musician is lore breaking.

Evokers are the playable version of dragons like Alexstraza and Deathwing. There was a basis to bring them into the game.

Augmentation evokers also do not fit into the theme of Warcraft.

A musician tanking a dragon with a lute is lore breaking.

Look, I’m pro adding bards to WoW but even I think that’s a gross oversimplification of the actual argument against the thematics of a bard. Most people point out that class choices such as “Tinkers” and “Necromancers” are more represented within the franchise and thus should be prioritized, which makes sense. There’s no big representation for a bard archetype, as fun as it would be to see.

Netherian had support abilities in cataclysm.

Bard advocates don’t want the ETC. They want the Pied Piper in tights prancing around the raid.

While Bards have mostly been “sorta” jokes through characters like E.T.C and associated band, there have been bards.

Bards in most fantasy settings have interesting abilities and it would, imo, be very interesting to see what WoW does with them. They’d likely be our second Support class and I’d imagine most if not all of their specs would have that feature.

I disagree here on two points. 1) that they don’t fit the Theme of WoW. and 2) that anyone should stop asking for any of the things they’d like to see within WoW. Bards could easily be a cool class just like Tinkerers or Necromancers or Spellbreakers or what have you. Not really up to you to decide that for people.
