Nobody wants to play a whole different character and having to start over again just to change a simple hairstyle. Its amazing how some people have been conditioned in this game to just accept terrible design just because of “tradition”.
You know this is why WoW was even made in the first place right? Because the devs wanted to break conventions of older MMOs before it?
Imagine being this way irl to friends whom decide to switch up their hair or appearance and that somehow makes you not want to talk to them anymore. So unhinged
Transmog? Skews image of progression and disrupts recognition of gear from a quick peek. Pretty simple in my opinion. This also lessens the pressure for developers to deliver good looking tier sets.
This is peak wowbilly-ism right here. No reason just outright denial of things just because “gosh darn dang it aint like the vaniller” living up on a private server in the mountains and we dont take kindly to you retail folk comin’ round here and changin’ things!
I just personally dont agree with telling people no on a universally liked feature in games. Its just petty. But at the same time I can understand the merits of visual gear progression (which in a criticism to THAT, I say visual progression becomes moot when practically most players endgame look the same. That feeling quickly looses its luster when everybody else looks the same. This is an online world and I rather have players all look different than rocking the same endgame gear).
Toggable transmog should be possible. Some private servers I heard even have that and they can just make the option a server thing before you log into the game if theres potential item phasing issues or whatever
I disagree with your POV, but I get it. The reason I disagree is mostly for the RP crowd. I think there are serious benefits that would enhance classic WoW without actually taking away from it in some regards, and this is one of them. A RP player changing the appearance of their character as they progress through their RP story would really enhance the game without taking anything (imo) from classic since this is just appearance change, not transmog.
barber shop is almost a whatever type thing but really is only that if they limited it to hairstyles or bears or hair color .
transmog however actually changes the ability to visually assess other players power and a bunch of other things with that.
if there was a toggle for trasnmog that you could turn off seeing other peoples transmog and it actually worked, most people would have no problem with it.
let the people who want transmog have it and the ones that dont want it dont get forced to see it.
this is the best and only way to really go about it.
really though a barber shop that changes hairstyles or beards or hair color i dont have a problem with.
