I think that enough information has been ignored that it’s clear they have no interest in a solution.

Although I believe others have already answered much of this I’ll cover what I can.

“Offensive” isn’t necessarily the correct term. There is no requirement for anyone to be personally offended to suspect a name might not be appropriate.

The following is in our in-game Code of Conduct:

Communication

When participating in communication of any kind (chat, voice communication, group finder), you are responsible for how you express yourself. You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others.

Hate speech and discriminatory language is inappropriate, as is any obscene or disruptive language. Threatening or harassing another player is always unacceptable, regardless of language used. Violating any of these expectations will result in account restrictions. More serious and repeated violations will result in greater restrictions.

Naming

Names are subject to the same rules established above. Any name the player has the ability to customize—such as player names, BattleTags, and guild names—must be appropriate and inoffensive. Any name that violates our standards or disrupts the community will be changed, and additional limitations may be placed on the offending account per our discretion.

Take note that acceptable names are determined by player reports and Blizzard’s decision, and role-playing servers may have distinct standards for using game-appropriate names.

You can use the right click report option if you see them in-game. Alternatively, if they post on the forums with that name we have a specific reporting category to bring that to the attention of our Forum Moderators.

As mentioned, the Armory isn’t a great source of bad names. The problem being it may not accurately reflect the status of a character. For example you could take 10 characters with the same bad name and think, “These are still there, why was only mine changed?”.

Our policies are mostly reactive by nature. Meaning it has to be reported. The Armory also usually only updates after the character has been logged out of. So maybe 4 of those characters were never reported, 4 others were reported and they were flagged for a name change but the players haven’t logged into the character since they were flagged. The last 2 could just be copies of the characters from before the name was changed and the Armory technically lists both, if you knew their old and new names they might just show up.

Using the in-game “Submit Feedback” option that is found on the Support menu.

  1. Press the Esc key to open the Game Menu, and click Support.
  2. Click Submit feedback or bug report.
  3. Click Submit a suggestion.
  4. Follow the guidelines on the submission form, and enter your suggestion.
  5. Click Submit.

You are, but I would avoid calling others names, as that is a violation of our Code of Conduct. Calling folks sheep is not really polite and name calling in general falls under trolling.

How long you have had a name doesn’t mean it was ever acceptable. It usually just means it wasn’t reported and reviewed.
