We had to kick someone out of our guild for sexually harassing females in the guild. Now they keep getting us banned from world chat. I’ve had it fixed a few times using /chatinfo and paying the mod to unban me, but I cannot figure out who the mod is right now because /chatinfo isn’t telling me.
Is there any way to resolve this issue that I’m not thinking of? How can I tell who is a mod of the chat?
Have you tried /resetchat or a UI Reset to try correcting possible display errors? If you were able to find out the chat mod that way once, you should be able to do it that way every time.
Otherwise, you might just need to find someone else in that channel to reach out for you.
Player-made channels are not supervised by Blizzard, so they’re effectively hands off when it isn’t something that runs afoul of the TOS.
Resetting chat shouldn’t do anything. I’m banned in world. He stays online long enough to ban us from world chat because he’s mad that we shared the sexually harassing things he whispered and DM’d female members of the guild and is doing this daily to retaliate. World chat is very important to the game and I’d like to find a way to resolve this.
There isn’t. World chat is not one of the default Blizzard channels. It’s entirely player-made and player-run. If the current mod doesn’t want you in the channel, that is their prerogative.
You can mark this as semi-resolved. You can type /owner to see who is the mod in the chat and whisper them. I had been using /chatinfo and that was much harder.
What this guy said was mostly over snapchat and discord so I am not trying to get him banned. Just wanted to find a solution to his rage banning us until he gives up.
There is simply no solution, at least not in the sense that you are wanting. The channel mod/owner has the final say. A player-created channel is much like a guild. Blizzard is hands-off.
I disagree if this player has continued to harass the guild members, then calling him out should warn others about his actions. The same as if he were a ninja you call that out as a warning.
I get it i did the samething with guild bank ninjas before i was told specificly by a Blue years ago on the forums that would be considered a form of harrassment its never a good idea to stoop to there level.
If they have not put him on ignore then they aren’t letting him know they don’t want contact with him. It’s not reportable harassment until they do.
I’m not sure about anyone else, but I usually ignore any post like these in Trade or General chat. Players have done this just to be “funny”. Why should I believe what a random player claims in chat? How would I know if it’s true or not? I always feel the one doing the “calling out” is harassing the one they are calling out.
You are certainly allowed to disagree as much as you want. You are even encouraged to suggest a change to this policy in the appropriate place(s).
However, as it stands right now, whether you like it or not, agree or not, for better or worse, right or wrong, good or bad, the policy is that we do not call players out in this manner. On the forums, it will be moderated (post edited, warnings given, even suspensions if warnings are not heeded). In game, it can lead to being actioned by the GM’s.
