I’m not disputing them. I just don’t like those guys who present their wishes as facts and spam everyone with reports.
It’s because of them that the general chats in the game are empty.

My general chats are pretty active. Maybe it’s your server.
Probably because you’re playing on Vanilla. The kind of communication that used to exist is no longer there. The only chat that’s alive is the one where people spam their services. No one talks heart-to-heart anymore.
I’m on moonguard, I just didn’t bother swapping toons to post.
I will say that the general chat of today is much less rampant with racist, homophobic commentary that gets you dogpiled if you point out the content as such, like the old barrens chat of 20 yeats ago.
Your gaming world is an exception, I agree, you have a lot of communication. But it’s specific and doesn’t suit me.
People do talk heart-to-heart, and I know that because I choose to engage with people.
This is entirely a case of that the average person is just a fool who likes to watch time pass. Which is why the commonality in public discourse become precisely that. If one want something else, the solution is always to engage with it yourself and drive other people to engage with you.
But I will simply say one thing: largely the chat hasn’t changed … except a whole lot less racism, bigotry, and other stuff like that. Because people no longer view it as acceptable and… well, let’s just say that The Barrens’ chat over on the classic realms sadly do not reflect this change in societal values.
Folks in general seems to be more regressive when engaging with nostalgia.
It really isn’t an exception.
They have constant communication in the Looking for Group channel. On regular game worlds, you get punished for that.
Nope.
Sorry but it just straight up isn’t the case.
I trade on M.G I know what I’m talking about.
You sure about that…?
Because look I’m gonna be entirely honest, I just want to point out this post you made in this for whatever reason still on-going thread several days ago:
You don’t seem to get what is inflammatory, trolling, or insulting to begin with. So I find it hard to believe for even a moment that you know what you are talking about.
Folks simply do not get banned/suspended/punished for talking, but one can be for the manner in which one talks. Trade channels, general channels, folks still looking for other players via the group finder or in general chat to kill a rare or whatever… Folks do actively talk without any worry.
What you are saying is simply not happening, regardless of whatever realm you are trading on.
Every time I log into MG, I see people discussing all sorts of things in the chat. For example, last time they were talking about an episode of some series. On regular servers, they’d be reported for that right away, instantly! This is not possible outside of an RP world.
I mean…I’ve never had any sort of account action happen to me since I started playing in 2005.
I’ve simply followed the quote one of my science teachers gave me back in high school: “Safeguard yourself. Act as though everything you say and do is being recorded. Because it likely is.”
Granted, this was before the real explosion of the Internet happened, but camcorders were all the rage and cellphones had gotten the feature of taking pictures and capturing video. I think his words carry even more weight now. I can’t imagine growing up in this era, where every single dumb thing you do as a kid can come back to haunt you in 1080p.
thing is i dont believe you only the devs know if actions have been made or rather were just let slide, old blizzard was far more forgiving and let things go compared to now things are more harsh more strict absolutism to the rules regardless of what ever. online culture was far differnt than it is now as those of us who played long enough and been online long enough know.
Another un-truth
I’m not sure what to tell you. I don’t remember ever being silenced, suspended, or banned in my history of playing WoW.
I have had a guild name be flagged because I was young and dumb and made a guild called WoWaholics Anonymous on an RP server, though! But that was a simple interaction with a GM who explained why the guild name needed to be changed.
thing is the game devs were far less strict alot of them were actual gamers and wow nerds we know for a fact that most of the OG devs who existed left. the culture shifted from a more relax less authoritarian one to an extreme ban culture that started around the whole lawsuit and stuff was happening in company they were trying to save face only to lose more with the extreme over correcting. a games culture changes with its players and devs and i can tell you for a fact not only has the story tone changed but the culture im in my mid 30s i have been playing this game series since warcraft 2 with family who i use to play with after we all grew up i my self am alone in this game . but i do know role player servers rules and are entirely differnt than non role play ones. so you may not have noticed the change those not on one have also when realm mergers where happen stuff did change. point is it has changed.
I mean…I’m sorry that’s your lived experience with the game. I’m still playing daily and I’ve not witnessed anything even close to what you’re describing.
I’m still using the report function on the RMT spammers and service sellers and using the ignore feature on people going on political tirades as I always have. And that’s all in cycles. It’s actually pretty predictable, at least for me.
Heck, the reason I moved all my toons to Blood Furnace was to get away from all the trade chat, services chat, and whispers spam. My first server was Darkspear (PvP at the time) then I moved to high pop PvE servers until servers no longer mattered. I can enjoy my “small town” server yet still raid with my guild, who is almost exclusively on Proudmoore (and alliance, no less!).
I guess I just don’t get the sensationalism. I don’t see it in game. I only see this stuff blasted out on the forums.
alot of the things is the culture on each realm is or was so different most of the issues and such began really when they started merging. i have played recently on the emerald dream server and they are some of the nicest people there but on the one i have been on since cata at least can be extremly toxic its nothing like the other ones. but yeah.
I can’t speak to that as those goal posts are beyond my reach, but it does hark back to what I said about servers.
This you?
