You’re all probably like “this guy is crazy”… but this opinion is coming from a few very popular streamers. It’s not a game when you rely on DR timers to set up unhumanly possible reaction pushes and counters. The addons now play the game for you. It also creates scenarios where, after being removed from the game for 12 seconds or instantly silenced/countered, you feel helpless. Removing addons allows for human mistakes and opens a new opportunity for skill. It also is a small fix for playing the healer’s mana bar, giving EVERY class the utility to counter everything, dampening… etc. It’s ruined this game to such a high degree that most of its players cannot play without addons. How is that possible? In the spirit of competition, just like in real sports, you should be asking yourself “did he use that cooldown?” “is there an opening to strike?” and making a JUDGEMENT CALL. Scary words, I know. Let me know your thoughts.
/sw play
Matches will never not be full of these.
??
Would be impossible to enforce this.
Also the banning addons talk from streamers is for tournament play. It’s something that’s been criticized since they began to allow them in tournaments, since in the past you weren’t allowed to use addons at the LAN.
It’s certainly hard to view from where we currently stand.
That being said, players get their guidance on how to play from streamers. If they no longer use addons, then it would make the ban easier. The meta would shift to more player identity and accountability rather than “you don’t have that addon, I’m not playing with you because you missed a 2 second window”. You miss that window, maybe the opponent does too and the game flow is changed. We’re only talking about rated play btw. Addons, because of their ridiculous nature, would exist in randoms (and should to provide insane interaction vids ).
It would definitely be a quality of life improvement for new PvP community members that need to climb the ladder to gear. Or, you know, they just don’t make 9 tiers of item leveling (but that’s another thing entirely).
Said it before and I’ll say it again.
I like my custom ui and sound effects, so no, take your opinion and go play LAN tourneys
Oh, well if a few very popular streamers say so, I guess I’m convinced. Where’s the Koolaid bowl located? I got my Silo cup ready.
Blizzard designs the game around addons and neglects their UI with the assumption that a 3rd party will cover it. So before you can push for addons to be disabled Blizzard would need to be prepared to step their game up (which isn’t happening).
Maybe start saying “no borrowed power systems active in pvp, and pvp specific class tuning” we might get on board
So WoW is no longer a game because people have an add-on that tells them when they can sheep someone again?
Isnt that the truth. The only thing they’ve cared to tune or fix this expansion has been their dungeons. Unless the next expansion turns the game into a new game, there’s no way they’ll fix their default UI
They enforced it for years in tournaments. Which is the only place a rule like this belongs.
Alternately they can just disallow add-ons engine side. Lots of mmos do and it’s a pretty quick ban for the offenders.
I like my add-ons tho
I’m really not sure how obfuscating core game mechanics is supposed to somehow make the game more fun or skill oriented.
I think the real issue is that so many specs are incredibly self sufficient, as well as have so many fall back cds and this is getting blamed on add-ons because they can just throw things out the window when a weak aura tells them.
If you want a bigger focus on team skill expression, we need to cull some specs extraordinary defensive ability, mobility, and cds that can erase mistakes so bone headed decisions open up hard punishments early in games. We need to back to a design where 1 badly timed gap closer gets you straight up killed unless your partner can save you.
On top of that let’s be real here. The biggest issue with why the game has add-ons is the base ui is hot trash. You can’t even move the ui without an add-on which is stuck in 2004.
If the UI had better base customization, and better information readout, add-ons wouldn’t be nearly as popular.
i think just have them allowed and just remember that its a game. but for tournaments i heard pika saying he wishes that he wants it to go back to no addons in competitive play.
One thing I enjoyed about New World is not having to worry or think about addons. I wish wow would do a major update on their ui and make addons a thing of the past but they won’t because that costs money and it’s currently being done for free so why would they bother…
You are not losing because of addons.
Players try to model streamers, you’re right. We all see the Q & E spam rogues and the ones who think they’re sick because they do the same crap pikaboo does on stream. Gameplay on ladder is very different from gameplay in a tournament.
No one is going to stop using addons because pikaboo stopped using addons, because it simply doesn’t matter. Why are you nerfing yourself when you can have addons do the work for you and essentially get a free carry by them without thinking. These players are never going to become AWC players, and will never have the skill to become htem because they have weak mentals and playstyles. Banning addons is simply IMPOSSIBLE for ladder.
Tournament is a different bag of worms that’ll never get fixed because of how poorly it’s managed.
I wish they would ban addons. Half these people have programs playing the game for them at this point lmao. It’s just kinda silly
You and OP might want to try it. Just sayin’. :X
My problem with them removing addons is that the regular UI is garbage and doesn’t facilitate the needs of the high-level gameplay. Some examples:
-
Without addons, I wouldn’t have enough action bar space to put my spells on given I like to use arena macros and macros that target specific partners. My disc priest has like 15 slots I make up for with action bars.
-
Without addons debuffs on the raid frames are too small and only shows a maximum of 4 debuffs I think it is.
-
The base UI doesn’t display DR’s despite them being in the game nearly forever.
-
The base UI arena frames are terrible and can’t be moved without a script.
-
The base UI doesn’t allow for a clear display of buffs on nameplates to a sufficient standard.
So my conclusion is -
NO get good and stop trying to change the game when it’s a you problem you aren’t winning. You have access to addons to use them if you think they are so strong.
