Oh look… that same thing everyone said was going to happen is happening.
A cash grab…
From Blizzard…
And oh look, a thread of people white knighting it. Who could have seen this coming?
Surely those icons of traders tenders with amounts on them datamined in the cash shop aren’t trader’s tenders in the cash shop… Such a thing could NEVER be.
TLDR Traders Tenders are the premium currency (gems) of your mobile game.
You might not have phones, but your PC game will continue to slowly creep into Gatcha territory as players leave and they have to make ends meet.
If they make Trader’s Tender purchasable with real money that’s going to pretty much ensure I unsub. It was such a nice feature to reward for actually, you know, PLAYING THE GAME. If you can just buy it with cash, no no nope I’m out.
It might not fit the literal definition of a gacha game, but it’s from that playbook. It preys on a psychological human response to get people to spend money through artificial scarcity and fear of missing out.
Many gacha games let you get a taste of rewards by playing the game itself. But if you want all the rewards that are available, or you want them faster, you have to spend money.
Is that not identical to the system people are worried blizzard is going to try?
What other word is there for it? It’s a micro transaction to gain revenue with the least possible effort by manipulating people’s emotions.
lol, I wouldn’t care either way. If it continues to be on the trader post only, cool, I’ll wait for it to cycle back through. If cool things end up on the shop, that’s fine too. If I want something from there I can easily buy it.
And, Imma say again, some of y’all need to calm down.
Everybody who matters knows I post cat pics. It’s my thing on here. I post pics, because I have the Trust level to do so. Also, we need more cats in WoW. Keep responding, and I will post more cat pics. You too can help populate Azeroth with more cats!
I know!!! I was so sad when I heard that. Poor kitty.
I hope he is happy, and off doing this to the Grim Reaper:
"We’ve noticed the trading post has been very well received and that one of the chief complaints is that players are very disappointed being limited in the amount they can accrue each month. To that extent we agree and are excited to announce that tenders will now be purchasable via gold and not limited by the monthly cap.
…oh hey total random side note but remember the WoW token? Man that’s quite the cool feature we have isn’t it? Like gosh maybe you should buy one! We totally aren’t stealthily designing ways to allow players to inject more and more cash into the game without realizing how much they’re spending"
LMAO…you know the same damn lines were said years back when Blizzard put in the Blizzard Store to sell mounts and pets…and other things that it was going to go and be P2W…hahaha show me where in the Blizzard store is any item that if you buy it you will win the game over others?
Matter fact there is no Win in this game …ever…we just go from story to story taking care of business as usual…what part of that is a Win over another player…
Not sure what to say, if it happens and IF you are the type who can’t say no then I guess you’re sort of right?
But for me I enjoyed the few months of free stuff, and I won’t put a dime into it if it costs cash. Again I have already gotten multiple free pets, mounts, transmogs… did I mention they were FREE?
Honestly it’s no surprise. EVERYTHING online will continuously be monetized into the ground. Everything from video games to dating apps. Capitalism will always find a way to squeeze as much money out of people that choose the path of least resistance. This is a wake up call not for just video games but life in general to escape this tech trap we are becoming engrained in.
I think this swings far too much on the other way; no, they are not going to start making the armor you obtain in game look worse so you buy armor from the Trading Post instead, and they probably won’t stop handing out free tenders.
But this is indeed clearly designed to target the completionists that hate having to skip items. We will probably see more expensive items cropping up to have the tenders you can collect through game just not be enough to buy things, probably they will start adding MORE items each rotation.
They will hide behind the “you can still get the same tenders! this is entirely optional” and that will be true for many, but the point is to target those more vulnerable to these models.
I’m hoping that the people who are once again putting false faith in an unproven dev team are prepared to apologize when they are wrong yet again. Shop Asset bundles is pretty clear cut on what it’s going to be.
