Bad lag making it hard to play

Ive been experiencing lag issues on both east and west coast servers. ive never had an issue till the last few days. I live in Alaska and my word ms is about normal for me (60-120 average). but with that being said my home lat has been averaging between 400-600. everything has been unplugged, restarted, flushed, and deleted. anyone got any ideas of what to try next? all I can think of is a bad form of routing to the servers or something along those lines. and it only happens when im in BFA content. everywhere else I am fine and with other games I have no issues.

Lets start with a winMTR
WinMTR

  1. Download WinMTR
  2. Extract the contents of the .zip file to your desktop.
  3. Open the WinMTR folder, then open the folder that matches your version of Windows (32-bit or 64-bit) and run WinMTR.exe.
  4. Enter the IP address you want to test in the Host field. Select a game from the dropdown below for a list of IP addresses.
Note : If multiple IPs are listed, run a WinMTR test for each IP address.
  5. Click Start , then launch the game you’re testing. If no connection issue is found in the first 5 minutes, restart the test.
  6. When a connection error occurs, play for at least 5 more minutes, then click Stop in WinMTR.
  7. Click " Export Text " and save the .txt file to your desktop. Name this file WinMTR.
  8. open the file above select all copy and past to this thread
    The Americas
    137.221.105.2 (US West)
    24.105.62.129 (US Central)
    Oceania
    103.4.115.248

Having the same issue.

Really high latency in game around 3000ms to 4000ms both (home) and (world) but I don’t get disconnected. My browser works fine and there’s is stable internet connection outside of WoW.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

You play on a US server from the Philippines correct? Your connection is taking the long way to get to the US and There are some issue after it leaves the Undersea cable,

Lets try resetting your UI. Cut and paste the following folders to your desktop and test. Interface, WTF and cache. A messed up addon can cause latency issue. with the WinMTR its probably not the cause but lets make sure

Sorry I just got back to you now, the problem persisted throughout the day and I even had trouble loading forum pages, so I kinda gave up and did other things.

It’s weird because I can open any other website but when I try loading forum posts my browser just won’t load it or it would take a really long time to load.

and Yes I do play from the Philippines.

I tried deleting the folders you mentioned and found that deleting cache worked and fixed the high latency issue. My ms right now is back to 176-180ms range.

Can you explain why this folder is causing issues with latency? and why deleting it just magically fixes the problem. And also why I couldn’t load forum pages that are under battle.net domain or under blizzard?

I just wanna understand these things better and thank you so much for your help.

The game only allows so much bandwidth for addons. If a addon is malfunctioning and maxes out the bandwidth it causes latency in the game.

Nvm, the disconnects started happening again. Idk why but it’s really just WoW and anything battle.net including the forums. I can connect to everything else.

Your routing to the blizzard servers is definitely part of the ISSUE. You are being routed from the Philippines to HK from HK to Portland Oregon , Portland Oregon to Seattle then its going throw 4 different nodes in the cogent data center.

The connection between
|be4149.ccr21.sea02.atlas.cogentco.com - 0 | 207 | 207 | 178 | 179 | 200 | 179 |
and
|ae1-br01-eqse2.as57976.net - 28 | 99 | 72 | 0 | 348 | 394 | 338 |

seems to be were the issue starts. I would try to contact your ISP about the routing

I think connecting to HK first is normal, cause the Philippines doesn’t have undersea cables that go directly to the US, but I play on Proudmoore US which I believe have servers located in Los Angeles? So it seems weird I have to connect to Portland then to Seattle.

There are times during the day my ping is at normal ranges but after a few minutes of playing the ping goes up again.

I believe my current ISP had a service outage several days ago and perhaps their routing was affected somehow or was the cause of it. I’ll try contacting them to see what they’ll say.

generally no. which ISP are you Globe? Smart? PLDT? or one of the small ones? PLDT normal route is from the Philippine’s on to the Equinox cable

My ISP right now is Converge ICT

Your connection issues start when it reaches your ISP’s peering partner in Seattle Washington USA. Routing to HK is going to add a lot of latency to the connection.

The fact it is bouncing around the same cogent hops is most likely not helping but looks like cogent and the next hop are having peering issues. You will most likely have to get a supervisor to connect you to tier 2 support.

Is your cellphone a smart phone? Does it have a LTE sim in it? If its prepaid can you buy a data plan and test to see if the issue is resolved? A smart or Globe sim would be preferred as I know there routing.

You should be able to use the phone as a wireless 4G modem.

I have a postpaid Smart plan.

Yes I could connect to WoW using my phone’s LTE and the ping was stable.

When you contact your ISP ask for a supervisor, Tell them you are having issues with connecting to certain sites in the US. Tell them you have a trace route that shows a issue with their peering partner. That this issue needs to be escalated so it can be fixed. You also want to let them know you can connect perfectly with your phone so that you know it is a issue with their network or a peering partner and that it needs to be fixed

I would also contact them through there Facebook page and post the winMTR in a PM you want to make sure that there is noit a issue connecting when you use your phone

Thank you so much for the help!

I will contact my ISP and I hope they can fix this issue soon. I don’t want to miss out on raiding with my guild this week

Hello I have all the same issues as Rouka as well as the same isp.

If you can post a WinMTR I can take a look. Very likely the same issue. Instructions are above

Yes I also already talked to the tech gruop. I need to send then the same file. Actually but I need to get home first.

i also play off of Converge ISP. normally they do well, but every time they route my WoW traffic thru L3 or Cogent the game has unplayable lag. and if you are dealing with Converge in Angeles City, they will just give you the runaround.

If everyone could post a winMTR please
