I know this is an old issue, but I don’t recall the fix as I quit playing before SL and just came back a month ago-ish. Anyways, I chose the ignore this bag on my backpack, but it’s not working. Loot goes straight to the backpack. I’ve turned off all addons and tried, logged off char and back on with addons off and nothing. Remind me how to fix this please! It’s seriously annoying. I did run the command line to force items to sort to the left back first, as well, and that didn’t do anything aside from sorting left to right.
Try a full ui reset by deleting ur wtf cache and interface whill logged outa game and app.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding, but as far as I know the “ignore this bag” option is when you use the Clean Up option. So, when you hit clean up it doesn’t move any item in a bag marked with that. I don’t believe it ignores the bag when you are looting items.
Loot will go to the first available bag, unless it is flagged for a specific type of loot. So equipment goes to the bag flagged as equipment.
If it was doing something else, perhaps you had an addon that did it?

It works on all my other chars and that was before I added any addons back to game. I created this new char and it’s not working. Game was fresh installed so no lingering addons would have been left behind. I’m at a loss I guess.
Nevermind. I figured it out. I had run the sort left to right command, but hadn’t run loot left to right. We need this option to be in settings. New players won’t know about this option and may get frustrated.

Use the in-game feedback if you want to make the suggestion. This gets to the devs/QA (who aren’t on this particular forum).
