Or . . . retail also caters to those of us who know and remember those things, and do not want them anymore.
I am almost 47 years old. I started EQ1 the year it launched. Then did SWG. Then Acherons Call, and a host of others. Sometimes multiple MMOs at once. From 1999-2016, MMOs were my primary video gaming.
I remember that era as well as I remember vanilla WoW. I had zero interest in installing Classic WoW.
It’s fine and dandy for those who want it. I do not. It’s also why nowadays I enjoy games like HoTS, Overwatch, and Paladins, too.
It’s the same issue I had revisiting City of Heroes, which was my favorite MMO back in the day, via Homecoming. After a month, I was done. My gaming tastes moved on from that era of design.
Yep, I can’t wait for TBC and WOTLK but what happens after that? Why can’t they just make retail good again? It’s changed so much and it’s just not a fun game anymore.
Go to twitch and look at the World of Warcraft section. How many Classic streams do you see and how many retail streams do you see? Classic is destroying BFA right now in terms of popularity. We’ll have to see how long it lasts, but I don’t ever see BFA catching up to classic.
To be honest I’m enjoying all 3 versions Retail, Classic and PTR in one form or another. it’s like having Neopolitan ice cream . You get to enjoy a little of everything.
Well those are completely different genre. I play my fair share of Pubg, LoL, Smite, dark souls series, etc. it’s not just the fact that’s it a better MMORPG, it’s the fact that it’s just simply a better game. In and out. It give you a good challenge, great lore (much better than trash BFA, never gets old like watching LOTRO never gets old), great community, and a meaningful feeling when you actually get a good item. Just better. It has all the aspects of being the greatest MMORPG. Blizzard should be embarrassed for releasing BFA. AIR LOOMS!? Really? A guy got to max level from 1-120 in three hours. Terrible game.
They might be different genres, but they go into how my gaming tastes have changed and I’m no longer interested in the Classic WoW or City of Heroes: Homecoming type of past game design.
I play HoTS, Overwatch, and Paladins not because I love the MOBA or Shooter genres. Actually, I don’t. I dislike CoD, Apex Legends, and Modern Warfare. I tried and hated DOTA 2 and LoL.
But those three titles go into my changed tastes and why, except for the ease of Retail WoW, I don’t even play MMOs anymore. I prefer my quick, in-and-out gaming sessions. Overwatch, Paladins, and HoTS allow that. Login, couple of quick matches, logout and go do other real life activities. Retail WoW also allows that. Login, do a few quick quests, or a quick LFD or LFR, or maybe some WQs, logout and go do other real life stuff.
I’ve absolutely zero interest in time-slog video games anymore. I play them for some quick fun. Not to sit at the computer for hours and hours on end to accomplish anything. For me, that era is in the past, and remains there.
And I am an RPGer. But I do the real thing. I’ve been a table-top RPGer for over 30 years, and have worked in the industry for the past 15 years.
Exactly. Classic is attracting more viewers on Twitch AND there is always more users online in the WoW classic subreddit than the regular WoW reddit at any given time. Right now: Classic 11.6k online Retail: 7.3k online.
It’s okay to admit that BFA and retail in general are not doing so well at the moment.
You dont need a wow subscription to visit reddit or twitch. It’s not at all a valid comparison.
Retail is in a content slump, compared to the newer classic. Granted, they had to bust out Dire Maul sooner because your numbers were floundering quicker than normal.
