I was talking about Embers Adrift myself. It has all the old school qualities like losing xp for dying, requiring group play, minimal quests and instead grinding for xp. I love it, lol.
I may have misread this, but gen z comes after millenials. Lots of elder millenials (xennials) are children of baby boomers.
Yep, I mislabeled the two generations. My bad thank you I was going low at the time I was writing that. Went to below 40 Blood Sugar in the time I was writing so brain was going mush.
Fun fact, there is a 33 1/2-year difference between me and my half-sister. So, Iām a Generation X, but she is a late Generation Z.
I was in graduate school second year.
And I was adamant about not paying a subscription for a game. Besides I had so many other games that were interesting at that time.
RVS (I was knee deep making UT2004 mods and maps) Morrowind, 47th play through of Zelda Wind Waker, BF1942, the OG Call of Duty, Flight sims. Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide And Doom 3 was a hit. Not to mention all the PlayStation 2 titles. FF10/x2, Beyond good and evil. Soul Caliber. GTA3. Vice city. Simpsons Road Rage.
I could go for days. The point is:
At least for me, You had to be either a hardcore Warcraft player or a MMO person to get involved with WoW. And be that dedicated to playing monthly. And it was all about the long grind.
I remember playing WC3 with my heroes on a custom map. And thinking man, this would be a cool stand alone experience. I played Aeon of Strife, and lots of SC customs. I didnāt know that it was going to be so huge then.
I had two friends that were EQ junkies, but then again one of them was on permanent disability and owned every game on the planet.
Only mmo I tried then was Phantasy Star 1.
So yeah, back in my day I didnāt think WoW was going to be successful and skipped out on it. Same with Minecraft.
Itās like every time I see something dumb or terrible to play, thatās the game that becomes the eSport mega world hit.
Me over there trying to keep a Command and Conquer Renegade group going (because I loved that game) was doomed to fail.
Just like I abandoned all things Ubisoft after they got angry at Map editors. People who went on to make Groundbranch.
Nevertheless, I just donāt have the time to make custom content anymore. Barely have any time to play as it is. But Iām here. Have been since ā99
Back in my day as a guild officer I showed up to the first raid that required an attunement quest ready to go to find out half the guild either didnāt do the quest chain or didnāt even know about it, so raid didnāt happen that night. Instead we held the hand of all the slackers and got them attuned for the next time LOL
I remember when Barrens Chat was telling Vin Deisel and Mr. T jokes, that eventually became Chuck Norris jokesā¦
Great times.
I also needed my R.O.I.D.S. so I had to farm that before raids along with repair money.
And we survived BARRENS CHAT! and the constant one bored alliance toon that never stopped clearing CROSSROADS.
My first character ever, Bumbumhead, night elf druid, was eaten by Crocs in the wetlands. I was trapped in some walled in area and couldnāt get out, also didnāt know about spirit rez.
His ghost may very well haunt the Wetlands to this day. I never played him again.
Back in my day I did ironforge laps for an hour straight after finally getting a group to help me complete the epic lock mount quest.
nah we just blink before we hit the ground
whispers
and hell levels.
You could die so much that you lost entire levels.
EQ forever altered my willingness to take a death in a video game.
Ack! Deeply-rooted memories of being eaten by gators along the scary trek through the Wetlands! Yes! The nightmare of being dazed & confused in the Barrow Den! The struggles were harsh and well, Iām glad theyāre over while the old memories remainā¦ the grind to Insane in the Membrane or raising your bare-handed skillsā¦ your first encounter with Hogger! Getting confused/lost in Ironforge the first time you entered (without flight)ā¦
Baby gnome brawling with Hogger raids!
Back during original BC, i knew a guy who considered āraidingā to be traveling to Horde quest giver sites and killing the NPCs.
He would say āwant to go raid?ā And he would take you to a low level Horde quest hub and proceed to kill them all.
No, this was not an RP server. This is what he actually thought āraidingā was.
Also, back in my day there would be a constant, non-stop battle going on between Southshore and Tarren Mill. No matter what day of the week, what time of day, there would be people out there fighting. Good times.
I was 39 when I started in 2006. Weāre here, and always have been.
To this day I try to make it to max level without dying. And I have zero tolerance for players that go out of there way getting you killed then joke about getting you killed. Currently have only 2 characters at 0 deaths, a bunch at 1 because of the Dragon Flight quest that involved having to have Wrathion take you up to the Black Citadel and then dropping you shortly into the flight.
It is my major gripe about the death statistic because it doesnāt take into consideration of game bugs, so should be removed from the game.
