I think for me getting away from the garrison was a relief enough that Legion just seemed better.
Compared to classic thru Mists, yeah, Legion sucks rump too, lol.
Back in my day, yes, community was the game.
I had friends in the game and I could wait to get home from work and log on. We would group and run old raids and dungeone as a team.
We did PvP as a team.
We quested as a team.
We chatted in the guild we built.
We had fun as a team.
Today the team is gone. 3 do not play anymore. I have forgotten where another 2 of them went. 2 of them died.
Today, I was leveling a new Gnome Mage in the Goldshire area and there was another character doing the same quest, killing the same mobs and I whispered him to ask if he wanted to group up. I was told to basically “go to hell’”
This is what the game is now and it is not pretty.
The guild I am in has 117 members and most times when I log on, no matter the time of day, I am only one on.
When there are other players on I say “Hello” and I get no responses.
So I am still basically a solo player. I cannot solo dungeons or raids anymore because of scaling.
I feel like i only exist.
Back in my day we had to walk up hill both ways to Scarlet Monastery and back. Barefoot. In the snow.
Get off my lawn!
with the implementation of cross realms this was killed, I really miss the way it was before too when everyone knew everyone even the Ninjas. Feels like a life-time ago.
The absolute reason for my post is this, this right here.
Back in my day, we had Have Group Will Travel, and it was amazing.
I remember that
Back in mah day, I actually had friends I played along with as we pulled bosses into major cities.
My guildies have been currently absent (some that I did not know well, maybe have just left to join another guild?) & perhaps because we are an older generation, daily life responsibilities, limited free time, etc. Although we did work together & learned from each other in the gameplay, mostly in raids (took the time to learn the best strategy). I remained with the guild and have been lately soloing my gameplay for almost 3 years, maybe more? I benefit from the Guild achievements/perks & my absent guild master has been the most patient/respectful individual. I still recall ruining a raid after agrroing trash mobs with my Night Elf & my guild master asked me, why didn’t I shadowmeld? I’m like, what’s that?
Anyhow, back then it was more socially assisting each other to better our gameplay, while also increasing a friendship bond. Nowadays, it’s difficult to select those you rather associate with if you want to tag along. WoW may have all walks of lives playing the game, good & bad, but the content is so diverse & vast…could it be said part of the game prevents team effort? I’m not disappointed entirely on the game, because it has provided me with an enjoyable soloing gameplay. But I will admit, having guildies play along your side, was a blast!
Insert, my favorite Wow track has been & still is Song of Elune, other than my favorite continent experience Kalimdor experience while leveling my Night Elf.
Back in my day, before any flavor of group finder or LFR: if you wanted to do instanced content, you needed to be non-toxic and play your class reasonably well. You needed a guild of like-minded folks or a list of friends that you might actually call friends.
The game didn’t change much, you just got older. People still run statics with friends and paid runs have been in the game since Molten Core.
Back in my day…kshhhhhhrrrrrrrr dial-up…aflrghhgff .who picked up the phone!
What were we talking about?
Playing on one of the small classic servers was kind of fun with seeing that again. Small guilds of friends you could run into and really enjoy so you’d play with them whenever they were looking for a person for dungeons, remembering the people you preferred to never play with again.
Isn’t that embarrassing? Ah, aging, it sucks.
Hard NAH response to that one.
Back in my day (BC), in the belf starting area, if you came upon either Knucklerot or Luzran as a lowbie, you were very likely to get reckt. Very similar to the feeling of the Alliance lowbie area in Darkshire, and came across Morladim or Stitches.
Also, back in my day, original Plaguelands (both) was fantastic. Hard area to level in, but awesome.
Yup, that was back before all this cross realm and quick name change nonsense. People actually worried about their reputations.
Crossrealm LFG/server shards, feels like it was a calculated move to destroy server communities and focus on streamlined gaming in an attempt to garner more short term subs
Back in my day, I joined a PvP server and died my way through HFP.
Back in my day, Battle. net was a new feature for Warcraft 2
Players are less likely to just hang out now. Everyone is in a big hurry with many tasks that need to be done. Systems and currencies are out of control. The game should not be designed for players to play 10 hours per day. If someone wants to play that much, it’s perfectly fine, but if they run out of content they like, then they should move on and stop complaining and jumping guilds because they don’t want to wait for others to catch up.
There should also be more server connections. Get rid of cross realm. Connect realms to make the game not dead.
Overall the game is better today.
Back in my day, you could mount up in combat and ride away if you didnt get hit. Now if a bear half way around the world even looks at you, your mount refuses to come out.
