Legion was actually quite criticized during the first half of it’s life and wasn’t the rose tinted glasses darling people see it as until around patches 7.2.5 and 7.3 .
Legion is when all of these borrowed power systems that you have to work on that people complain about started.
Legion is when the current iteration of the game began . So hence Legion is the start of the currant suckage.
Yeah, we had a pair of rogues that I remember to this day. Zya and Zyk on Lightning’s Blade. They were always in pairs and all they did was pick 2v1 fights. If we had a sighting, our entire guild would mobilize to try to kill and camp them.
I think they should give an option for LFG to select “server only” and it could reward extra loot, or currency, or cosmetics.
I miss that part of WoW community the most. Servers were vibrant, realm forums were actually populated. Good times. Imho it’s one of the biggest WoW losses.
I was in Vanilla and back in that day guilds were “serious business” with 40 person raiding and DKP systems. It was horrible. That put me off guilds forever.
I miss that feeling I got the very first time I saw the Wrathgate in-game cutscene. That was like nothing we had ever seen before in the game and it blew me away (still does actually). Now cutscenes are so common the magic is kinda gone.
Edit: One recent exception (to me) is the Ysera death scene. That one kinda captured some of the old magic.
Back in my day, MS hadn’t yet taken hold of me so tightly, and took away the feeling in my hands and and part of my vision, and I was able to run dungeons and raids. You know, back when dungeons and raids weren’t races and people actually had loyalty for the guild they were in. And people ask me why I play solo now, why I forgo doing any dungeons or raids and the only guilds I’m in are the ones I use for basically storage and to keep guild recuiters from whispering my toons 800 x a day.
For me it would be the same Painmasta.
No matter how hard tried ,no matter how hard as lead even putting out incintives to guild members since , I’m gunna say Cata I have either found too many I used to know either got burnt out or had so many internal problems couldn’t organize anything for anything.
Sometimes I do miss the social aspect of guilds but also don’t miss dealing with guild members dramas with eachother which s why I just do my own thing anymore.
a) stories, big and small, both fleshed out and colored in the World
b) there was zone power progression instead of today’s stupid scaling
c) gaining experience and levels was meaningful because it took time and effort instead of being handed out like candy at Halloween
What has changed for me as I have been playing since day 1 of launch is that I don’t need to spend an insane amount of time anymore. Not only that, but there is so much more to do at end game and leveling at the start of each expansion lately has been a lot more fun and doesn’t take nearly as long as Vanilla/BC did.
I was also able to still do the highest difficulty of raiding only having to do 2 nights a week at 3 hrs a raid. I stopped doing that in WoD because we didn’t have the 20 and I moved to just heroic raiding. But overall, it is nice not having to put in 5 nights a week at 4+ hours night just to raid and not counting all the other insane hours for grinding back in Vanilla and BC.
And I just did that Pandaria into Draenor move for the first time a year and a half ago as a returning player.
So disappointing.
I never would have returned if that had been when I quit.
Unfortunately I did not enjoy Legion any better, in some ways I found it worse, and have not been able to bring myself to finish its base game let alone complete the rest of it.
