Back in 2020 I read somethig interesting:

" Lead Narrative Designer Steve Danuser addresses concerns with Battle for Azeroth’s story and how the team is learning from them for Shadowlands"

So 2022

  • I see we learned how to retcon established gold lore of Warcraft.
  • Completely butcher established characters for “shock” effect.
  • And extreme overdrive in vague story telling
  • Shadowlands feels like a fan fiction of a person who read the summery of a book.

Can’t believe I’m going to say this after absolutely trashing twilight for years upon years, Twilight is a better story than shadowlands; I’m genuinely concerned that if you haven’t learned since BFA, and this is the result of your “learning”, Dragonflight might as well be Dragonblight.

I’m confused by this. Weren’t we told numerous times (including a couple weeks ago) that expansions are planned out years in advance?

Yeah they plan the titles.

Its hard to read all their notes under the desks of the various cubicles.

Not to mention after having a glass of freshly pumped milk they spent the day playing Call of Duty while offloading their responsibilities. Maybe they forgot what they previously said - hard to blame them in that case right?

Think it like menus at an event, they are planned out but things happen. If during week one of an event, the hosts (Blizz) discover their customers despise a certain dish they’ll make adjustments going forward.

The story here seems to be something akin to an ever changing buffet with different people putting out different dishes and hoping the meal is coherent.

Now it all makes sense.

JJ Abrams vs Risn Johnson comes to mind.

WoW “needs” its Mandalorian to flush out the bad taste of the feud between Afrasabi vs Danuser.

Well, and they need to fire Danuser.

This guy shouldn’t be allowed within 10 miles of WoW story and Lore, he alone has destroyed WoW That name above did it, :point_up_2:that guy killed 20 years of WoW story plus lore because he wanted to make WoW a digital “game of thrones” all WoW players should despise that guy. And he laughs in our faces about it.

“Who are you?”

“Sylvanas… Skywalker”

Literally exactly what happened to SW, but somehow even Abram’s incompetency is still better story writing than Shallowlands.

This hurts. A lot.

I can’t wait to see how Daneuser retcons the dragons! :woman_facepalming::-1:

I think it is like an executive level of planning… Purely high level with some jotted notes. X will be the protagonist, Y will be the hero of the story, it will take place in this never before seen space… Abilities, systems etc aren’t planned out until they start the actual building process.

Hope it stings the writer of shallowlands.

They have been doing this for years now. Years.

“We learned from (Cata, WoD, etc), and we want to grow from that for the next XYZ expansion. We won’t do it again, we promise.”

For years, they have been doing this. This is their go-to schtick, leading people on with promises to do better, and then completely dropping the ball. At this point, it’s like Lucy and Charlie Brown - they keep pulling that football away every time we try to play a good game as they promised.

Folks just need to stop drinking the Blizz kool-aid, and call them out on their bs. :woman_shrugging:

Yeah…it probably wont, sadly. You know that kid back in High School? The one in the thigh length coat he called a “trench coat”(that he obviously pulled out of the back of his mother’s closet), wore a trilby, had a patchy “beard” he was undeservedly proud of…and always refused to admit he was wrong and would try and DM/GM table top games then work against his players instead of with them and kill off anyone who complained even a tiny bit?

That’s Steve Danuser. This man will never admit he’s wrong, and will just cling to the idea that we’re all just ignorant hicks who don’t “get art”.

If Shadowlands lore can be considered art, I will compare it to the banana taped to the wall meme of what can be considered art nowadays.
