Azshara SHOULD be our Ally!

Here is a topic i wanted to talk about since some times now, and i think it might sound weird for some but, to me, it would be the best thing to do.

Azshara is the last actual character who is an antagonist who have still charisma and is around since more than 20y, her legitimacy is not even to be questioned as a character.

Plus, she is interesting, she have multiple sides and not just one unlike a lot of characters who are defined only by one thing.

Now, why would we team up with her you might ask, well, same reason why would spider-man team up with the Kingpin, or Sonic would team up with Eggman.

These 2 examples work very well with Azshara, as Azshaea just like these characters is not just wanting to destroy the world but rather rule over it, she will have no profit over letting a cosmic power come and claim Azeroth for its own, as she wants that planet (maybe even the titan if she knew of it?!)

Anyway, to me, she is a good fit to be a kind of 3rd party faction, a grey character, who is not completely bad and can be our ally.

Some people can think its impossible and out of this world, but i want to point we already teamed up with her in Ny’alotha, not long but still we did, and it is this kind of relationship i think would work. Plus, it would bring playable nagas!

I would like to see Azshara actually helping us fighting Xal’atath, that would be neat!

I can’t really see her getting along with Malfurion & Tyrande.

Rommath and Valtrois on the other hand? … Well, they may have some mild schisms & judgements made on her decisions of past loyalties + actions, but to an extent both Rommath & Valtrois could at least relate on behalf of their people having made such mistakes before too, sooo :person_shrugging:

I guess with the right story, character developments etc, you could pitch Azshara getting along with both factions — but for now, it seems like the Alliance would have too much of a stick up their hoohas and the Horde would just be like: “Bad decisions & now wanting to make a difference? Tsch, join the club”

  • As for a neutral faction we can build rep with — It could potentially build up a good story moving forward … You have some interesting stories to still play with Azshara too, like various zones that the Naga skirmish for artifacts, the Court of Farondis and so on.
  • If I recall correctly there’s also Naga who act outside of loyalties to Azshara (like to the Twilight’s Hammer / N’Zoth / Illidan, etc)

So there’s a lot of parallels to dabble with the story of Queen Azshara. :dracthyr_nod:

 I’d just hope if they do play with such concepts, that they do their homework & research – Ultimately honouring the lore & giving the story some justice with good writing.

I totally agree with you! You make very good points!

Yeah, there is, whats interesting with some such groups like the ones with tiwlight hammer and n’zoth (which are i would say related) is that they would be an actual faction of naga that we could actually fight in alliance with Azshara as they would be like Void crazed and not listening to Azshara, just like Un’at in bfa seemed to be more loyal to N’zoth than his Queen.

For the Illidari nagas, its a very interesting case, its like, they do listen to Illidan, but they dont deny or reject Azshara none the less, like Vashj explains in SL, she still did all for her Queen. So they are very interesting to explore too.

Yeah, i hope so too, and in a way they did this in BFA, when you re watch the warbringer animated short, you clearly see how good it is, and i hope they keep this up with her.

In the same sense of how the mixed blood of the old gods gave the Nerubians more humanoid forms & elevated with dark powers — It’d be interesting if Azshara came to such knowledge and was able to provide the Naga the same gifts to move them a step forward closer back to their original forms.

Although with Azshara traversing the stars, it wouldn’t shock me if she had that as a mere piece of the puzzle & sought to get more to add into it; like an artifact of light to bless it and bind ‘order’ magic towards restoring the Naga to their former glory — Along with any other Highborne, Night-Elves, wisps & undead of their kin, who pledge loyalty / allegience / alliance with her :person_shrugging:

Lots of interesting stories to play with … Personally I think the above would be awesome, especially if she had it with the best intentions & sought to help us, only to have a few backstabbers and ultimately require us to team up & deal with the traitors along with the prime threats we already were facing at the time. :fist:

I think,

There is a little miss understanding of the Nagas and Azshara and thier overall culture and how they view themselves, i explained myself :

It is always stated that the Nagas dont want to return to their former apparence, they see them as an evolution over the elves, they think they are above what they were before, and that their great destiny was embraced when they became nagas, they dont wish to return to any kind of former forms or glory as they think they are better now nd in glory right now. They still rule over the sease, they still have an enormous empire (we dont know exactly how it is post bfa thought)

But yeh, they dont see their form as a curse or a steback, they wont want to return to such a form, also that forget to mention the new generations of nagas which never were elves to begin with but were born as nagas.

I can totally see her comeback naga elven new model and all specially with the unification of the elves since all elves seems to come from the same place…

However whatever help or alliance she offers it is to further her personal agenda or at least that is how she has been written to be… she could be allied with Xal or against her or both depending whether it suit her or not… and I believe Azshara and Xal would be weary of each other.

I think it be cool and playable Naga would be amazing and it’s completely possible as we have seen with the Dracthyr. I can totally see Naga Visage Form using Night Elf model with Naga traits just like the Dracthyr have with their Thalassian Elven models.

With Tyrande I would not worry so much, she made far to many mistakes latest one was rejecting Immortality again for her people… even after the latest rebelion with the Druids of the Flame. Both Tyrande and Malfurion leadership have not be that great and Azshara can easily prove it just showing how much they progress or screw up in just the last past 20 years of WoW. (IMO)

Also I suspect that Azshara true endgame would be to usurp Elune Godhood and plant herself as the New Goddess of the Moon or something similar to a Cosmic Power Grab. Anything else would be uncharacteristic… a God need followers and she would still protect the elves.

Also it be a good opportunity to retire Elune and maybe introduce other gods, to help us restore her or revive her.

Azshara helping recreate an Empire of Elves that worship her as the New Moon Goddess I can totally see Arathi Emperor trying to unite his Empire with hers… as Sun and Moon or something grandiose like that…

Wow, sorry got carried away… Just like the return of the Arathi Empire bringings, Azshara opens up so many possible stories or plots to WoW with just her long story as Empress of the High Born or Naga alone… and I think that is good for WoW as an MMO… lol

I was moreso thinking along the lines of evolving that notion, like reflecting it was their denial & form of coping — However from a gameplay perspective, it’d also allow for a more acceptable form of ‘Playable Race’ with more humanoid models upon them.

Naturally you could have the original Naga form accessible in certain situations akin to Dracthyr or perhaps even Worgen (like ‘Running Wild’ ) with swimming or simple ground-travel, but yeah.

She IS completely bad, though. She’s a sociopath who only cares about her rule. I like her as a character, but I wouldn’t want to permanently team up with her. Only when there’s a bigger threat, like in BfA. I don’t want her killed off either.

I think Azshara is fun, and I don’t want to kill her either. Anyway, if you think of her as representing the unreliability of the sea, it would make sense for her to be an enemy sometimes and an ally sometimes.

I KNEW IT!!!

That was sooo obvious it was for the "ho but gameplay wise they need to be more humanoid! and thus more elves! because we clearly dont have enough elves!!

Well, i would appreciate to play a naga, not a scaly elf on my part.

Well, there is a kind of a problem there, because, sadly, its wow, and if you dont perma team up with someone then you eventually kill it, sadly. As for her being bad? Its exactly the point, there is many characters that are “bad even when they are good” as the expression says. Also the use of the term “sociopath” is wrong here, as sociopath means “a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behaviour.” and Azshara is not " extreme antisocial" at all, its quite the opposite, its like if you said that the “queen bee” of your college school was a sociopath, Azshara carves the loves of others, its noway sociopathic lol.

Thats a cool way to see the thing actually, i never thought of that!! As for the “fun” actually yes, she is like these fun villain you have in fictions that are just too good to kill!

That’s because Blizzard keeps killing villains. That sucks. I don’t want that.

True, and I don’t want her to be anything but bad.

Sociopaths DO want to be loved, and DO want power. CEO’s are disproportionately sociopaths. They want power and Azshara wants nothing more.

Queen Azshara always seems to side with the strongest power. The Alliance and Horde have beaten the Burning Legion, killed all the old gods, and killed the Jailer. We are clearly the strongest power on Azeroth now. Why wouldn’t she join us? At least a peace treaty with the surface dwellers.

Meeting between major leaders occurs, Tyrande and Malfurion walk in and see Azshara there. Azshara just smiles and waves.
Also, is she the Tide Mother or not?

Thats exactly what i think would make the most sense!

I think she is, at least there was a lot of clues to say so.

Well, thats not the definition of the term…i think its a miss use. Also, nobody needs to have a pyschological or whatever medical diagnostic to prouve they bad or anything, she is just egotistic no need to go and use some scientific terms.

We got lucky with bfa not killing here (thanks bfa for this!) and i hope they understand her value over time and not kill her off.

It’s not the definition of the term. But they can want it.

Idk if this article uses “psychopath” as a synonym for “sociopath.” If not, I’m wrong.

A mental disorder isn’t required to be bad, correct. But to me, Azshara completely lacks empathy.

Well they unfortunately killed other villains like Ashvane.

Sociopathy isn’t a diagnosed condition recognized anywhere in the medical field. Trying to gotcha him over this feels dumb when you know what he’s trying to convey.

I feel like they’d condemn her about as much as they condemned Kael’thas and Elisande.

Could Azshara become an ally? Only one of convenience, as the OP outlines, but I doubt she’d remain an ally. Eventually, that convenience would run its course. I imagine when that happens there would be some Naga whom would remain loyal to the rest of the world rather than their Queen, but I don’t see Azshara as interested in other races long term.

Part of me thinks we should ship her off to the Seat of the Pantheon. Illidan wants to see Sargeras suffer? That’s how you do it.

There should never be playable loyalists to Azshara. She is a eugenicist. She is literally Azeroth’s version of Hitler. And not in the meme way of “Oh, roll eyes, calling someone you don’t like hitler.” She actually tried to enact a global cleansing of anything that wasn’t Highborne, including Night Elves that weren’t Highborne. She does want to rule everyone, but everyone in her image. As a Naga now, she didn’t solely want Kul’Tirans to worship her, she wanted them genetically altered into K’thir to fit being her subjects. To this day she tortures the souls of Highborne that refused N’zoth’s “gift” and would not become Naga, condemning them as the Drowned unable to pass on the same as she cursed Farondis’ court.

Suffer not Azshara to live.

Yeah, honestly I don’t really care much for playing them personally — However I can at least understand the desire of others to do so :person_shrugging:

That being said, I don’t really see too much of an issue with it lore-wise with the right storytelling — But can also grasp the problematic situations with clipping & overall game-design with their models, hence the suggestion to have transformative abilities between their two-legged forms & their slithery ones :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

:rage: You leave Bae’Zshara alone!

Nope. Azshara is pure evil forever and always.
