Didn’t think about this until I spent thousands and thousands of gold upgrading my heirlooms to 120. All these blue pieces I’m getting not only have Azerite stats but the primary stats are better by hundreds! I worked hard for the gold to not only buy but upgrade all these heirlooms and other than the leveling buff they suck!
I was having a hard time taking down mobs and as a test I equipped my Heart of Azeroth neckpiece and 2 other Azerite gear pieces in my bags and I was able to not only kill faster but lost less health at the end of the fight. I’m really curious as to why Heirlooms are so gimped in BFA…
Yup same too, i went and upgraded them and while good for legion noticed they were drastically weaker and soloing rares in looms impossible. From questing power levelers they’ve found that for 110-120 it’s something like an extra 47 minutes to max with heirlooms vs azerite. Only use is a button to quick swap into xp looms for quest and back. More stats equals bigger pulls equals more than 30% exp
Yeah it was if you got a legiondary on an alt that could be used for a heirloom. Heirlooms have been nerfed all together to be a choice, as they are at best, equal, to dungeon gear. Azerite armor is a feature of the expansion, and yeah it should be a choice. Heirlooms are not designed to give you substantial increase for killing mobs. That is for increased from dungeons, quests, etc.
Just use Azerite gear for combat and heirloom gear (gearset macro is best) for quest turnins. It literally comes down to spec and pulls though. Some harder situations are disgustingly easy on certain classes/specs in heirlooms, while others I have to use Azerite gear just to pull more than 1 mob at a time.
True. I went through on my Hunter not realizing I could get 120 looms and it was a cake walk. Nice having a tank running around with you all the time! lol This mage on the other hand… definitely have to pull out the old crowd control tricks in some situations.
Will the game allow you end game content if you don’t clear all the zones? That’s what I’m worried about. I’m already bored of the quests having done them once lol.
I did it all on one character, then rest 11 alts got them fast through Islands and timewalking. I managed to get straight to nazjatar with all of them and even geared some with benthic bought with my main (tokens are account bound).
Also, I play on EU so my US profile won’t show a thing. They’re all 415-420 ilvl with emissaries, benthic, warfronts and other casual stuff. Leveling has 0 impact on what you’ll do at max level if you already got flying and stuff unlocked from rep.
Yea they are a joke from 110 to 120. IMO its only worth using the cloak, legs, ring(s) from 110 to 120.
I think there was even somebody who broke down the leveling time and found its actually quicker to use azerite gear because you kill stuff so much faster than the heirloom armor.
Heirlooms aren’t really intended to be used in current content… they are meant to aid in leveling up alts to get into current content… that said… unless they give Azerite gear the same treatment with the next Expansion that Artifacts got with BfA… heirlooms will be useless beyond level 110 for many years to come…
And I’m personally against destroying the Azeritr Gear system with new expansion… I thought destroying the artifact system was stupid and doing the same to Azerite is no different
You have a point, I didn’t think about it that way. In the previous expansions you couldn’t upgrade looms to work in current content. That’s why I was surprised when my son pointed out that we could.
If they are not supposed to be used in current content they shouldn’t have the option to drop gold on them to upgrade them then. In previous expansions when they allowed you to upgrade them to max level they were fairly useful. Thinking prior to legion they were on par with dungeon blues but they got nerfed in legion over the whole leveling revamp (basically leveling nerf).
Heirloom gear doesn’t even have better stats than random quest reward items before 110. But ya, someone did the math on it earlier in 8.1 or something. Basically heirloom gear is only worth it if you gear swap right before turning in quests, otherwise the xp gain isn’t worth the damage drop off. So, your money wasn’t completely wasted and you still can get some value out of it if you make 2 outfitter sets and swap before and after every quest turn in
I hate how azerite gear is in the same slots as several pieces of heirloom gear. What I’ve had to do on my alt is equip azerite gear to fight then heirlooms to turn in the quest (if I’m questing).
We shouldn’t ever have to decide between the xp bonus on heirlooms or whatever this xpac’s gimmick is (azerite gear in this particular case). The xp bonus is important for alts.
Honestly I’d rather not have the BfA exploding hamster wheel azerite gear at all (because it’s an infinite grind where all progress is lost at the end of the xpac, which feels terrible). All skill progression should be on the character, not a piece of gear.
That’s not correct. In Legion the heirloom gear maxed at 100 and not 110. It wasn’t until nearly the very end or even the BfA pre-patch when heirloom gear could level to 110. We still have an entire zone left to BfA and you can use many pieces of heirloom gear to 120.
