Awful retail changes to tbc arena! why?! who asked for this?

You are waaaaaaaay in the minority on this 1.

Look at the start of SL, rogues/ferals could 1 shot you, literally.

Good. That crap should be for PvP players, not folks looking for easy epics

i only played during the first couple months of sl so i am well aware of what was broken. those one shot mechanics made the game much harder for counterplay and were the reason i couldnt climb higher along with my inexperience in arena. that in-fact proves my point that sl arena is harder and was more unforgiving in the early season than tbc will be.

Except not only was that part of TBC, it is also the sole choice for an epic offhand for Enhancement that isn’t terrible in P1.

We shouldn’t arbitrarily change the game without knowing the impact it has on everyone.

Yah it’s great to have half the player base not even queue at all for Arena. Looking forward to shadowlands version 2 where no one queues.

So then get 2200 and get your items?

Definitely disagree, you are comparing the greatest WoW expansion with SL which isn’t even WoW and an unfinished dumpsterfire. BFA was better than SL. The problem with Retail PvP is there isn’t any class design, there are ridiculous power systems, everyone can do everything and there are tons of hidden aura’s, Retail is unplayable. You can’t compare that to TBC which was the perfect WoW expansion where the game is actually great.

Comparing TBC to SL is like comparing TBC to Fortnite. They just aren’t even the same game.

i wanted to play authentic tbc, not sh*t blizzard’s retail version of it.

I’m sure the meme shamans will be fine. There are options, not everyone needs to be decked out in full epics.
As the game progesses you’ll become more powerful.

Well unfortunately all this crap will probably lead to another renaissance of private servers.
While I couldn’t care less about this change, and even view it as positive, it’s unfortunate that they couldn’t just leave the damn thing alone.
Mark my words, in ten years we’ll be at…

World of Warcraft Legion Classic!

Blizzard has gotta be the laughing stock of a lot of game companies at this point.

I mean the rating req was in tbc…

Enhancement is in no way a meme in TBC. Also, again, adding changes that they think are good with zero testing that has direct negative impacts on the playerbase is not a good thing.

I am a casual PvPer with zero interest in PvP because of these changes, and I’m not alone. You have to realize that the vast majority of people who PvP don’t care about super high rating - and this change is definitely one that will decimate the arena participation.

Not for S1/S2, not as high for S3, and with an entirely different system.

Not the same. You were already informed of that, along with S4 being by far the lowest participation.

The change happens in tbc still.

We all get it happened later. We all understand that.

It is happening now and I’m happy.

Also I’m literally the person who made the original post outlining when it happened rofl

Different change, much later, and a different system entirely.

Again. You are arguing that because it happened in TBC, it’s fine applying earlier. I’ve already told you multiple things that changed later in TBC that Blizzard is changing back to early TBC version.

This argument is completely void because of that.

We’ll see. Blizzard just announced it, we haven’t even gotten clarification and so far the feedback isn’t great outside of a handful of elitists.

Increased rating requirement and lower starting floor is going to just exacerbate the problems with arena. When you increase the rating requirement and people who could reach 1800 can no longer get anything they’ll just stop queueing or pay for boosts. Which is what is happening in shadowlands. Putting items within a reasonable rating especially when placed against the pve alternative is good for the game.

2050 rating in arena is much harder then completing Kara, SSC, BT. Sunwell is when the rating change reflected the much harder pve content. S4 is also when arena tanked in participation.

Wrath had the ratings done perfectly. Everything 2050 and under, T2 weapon (heroic) at 2200.

They are making changes that are in line with this, so I’m ok with it.

New races made at prepatch instead of tbc release.

Start with 2.4.3 itemization and talents along with all the class buffs.

So yes, it didn’t happen right away but it did happen half way through tbc.

They’re also making changes in line with early content patches. Look at the way blacksmithing is being handled. Main hand only and not offhand.

Some changes are good, like allowing us to level the new races in the prepatch. Final talents and itemization (in some ways) is good too. I have no problem with progressive itemization on the weapons that changed.

What I do have problems with is this terrible change that affects everyone who PvPs negatively, and completely turns me off of it.

This and with Kara weapons. This is why there’s so much of an issue. Enhancement lost all but two offhand weapons with this PvP change, unless you want to grind PvP. On a class that is… not great in PvP.

I can agree with this statement to a degree and don’t get me wrong I’m for no changes. Remind me what was it originally compared to now? Also PvE gear is a lot of times better than PvP gear. It’s not like PvP gear will gate you from rating.

Yea but that is a retail problem where the game itself is an unplayable disaster. Retail is a bad game and TBC isn’t. The classes and game design is infinitely better. Next a lot of PvE items are actually BiS slots instead of PvP gear. Honestly I will likely only be wearing a few PvP items.

TBC and Retail are as different as TBC and Fortnite. Again don’t agree with any changes to preserve the best expansion in the history of MMORPGs. However to say the increased rating requirement will give us Retail WoW is just not going to happen since the games couldn’t be more different.

I will be doing PvE for most of my PvP gear. In TBC you can get 2200+ without any PvP gear. It just is a different game. Also PvE is actually enjoyable in TBC so it isn’t like having to suffer in M+. Just saying.

Additional Note- I don’t think attaining gear should be overly hard, the game and real fun begins when you are BiS and have completed your character.

Worst take ever. This is t4 equivalent gear that already takes several months to get even if you have a gladiator+ strength team sustained throughout the season.

Meanwhile 70%+ people waltzing through Karazhan with a hop and a skip through Gruuls will casually obtain in a week or two what will be obtained with ~3% to ~5% of the population in PvP.

If “welfare epics” refers to a level of gear obtainable by a percentage of the players over time, then PvE gear will vastly exceed that threshold long before even Honor gear or no-rating required Arena pieces would.

This take is cancerous toxicity. Even if you hit 2050 in one week, you need to sit there and sustain that rating for most of the whole freaking season before you can get the weapon anyway! And this doesn’t even include the gloves or the set pieces either.

I’m already tired of hearing this abysmally toxic and WRONG inversed insight on this issue.

No one asked for this. The top ~3% to ~5% of players won’t get their weapons faster with this system, the other ~95% to ~97% of players will be find themselves spending a fraction of the effort getting better gear in PvE for their PvP play in a fraction of the time.

Yeah…reason #152306150618906310263196 why this change is completely pointless for people of ALL ratings participating in PvP.

2050…It’s not the top ~15% the weapons are for, its the top ~3% to ~5%. So 20% of guilds cleared Naxx in Classic in the weeks of this with the number climbing, meanwhile 3% - 5% of players will reach and maintain the rating needed to get weapons equivalent to a waltz through Karazhan…the equivalent of getting something like a perditions blade or azuresong mageblade in Classic WoW.

There wasn’t an arena rating for the weapons originally. Why? Because it took an entire arena season just to get the weapon if your rating wasn’t high in the first place!

There’s no reason why a PvEer shouldn’t be able to do 5v5 for 2 months to get a weapon equivalent to a drop from prince.

Not in Season 1 or 2. Heck we didn’t even get requirements on multiple gear slots outside of Weapon/Shoulder until wrath. And Shoulder/Weapon rating didn’t exist till season 3.
