Automated ban system makes players feel like they are walking on eggshells

I am going to be honest, I don’t even want to say anything or have some light banter in general chat anymore, for fear of saying something even remotely disagreeable. The vibe in the game is completely different with the automated ban system, it feels like I’m in a panopticon where anything I say or do is under the scrutiny of people who will report just out of spite or boredom.

The latest BG related mistaken bans have got me entirely avoiding AV. Even playing WSG freaks me out because whenever tensions get high in a losing game, I see people saying “Reported” for all kinds of things: reported for not being geared enough, reported for fighting in mid, I’ve even seen people get reported for not doing enough damage as DPS.

Players don’t even know what the threshold of reports is for a ban, so you don’t even know if you’re treading on thin ice. I was reported for being a fresh boost in a hopelessly lost WSG game last night, and I immediately left the game and stopped playing for fear of further reports. Does anyone else think the automated report system is a bit oppressive?

Good. Accountability for your words and actions is the first step toward a better not so toxic community.

yikes, and here I though pve side with parsing mentality was bad. Maybe wow classic is actually a toxic cesspool.

Its 2022… So many media enabled softies who cant take criticism and/or get triggered over the tiniest thing. You can’t be a human online without fear of getting banned. New players in wow have such a small chance of enjoying themselves due to the veteran players who expect everyone to know what they are doing at all times. Not much Blizz can do honestly its a community issue and people just suck.

I’m scared to say anything in game tbh, I literally received warnings when the WOTLK patch came out two of them, it was either for behavior or abusive chat. I was literally talking about FFXIV and Microsoft weeks prior. And I’ve hardly logged in so,

There is a great post on wotlk subreddit about players who were pvping and came across a well known streamer (the big guy with long hair). They killed him and some of his crusaders and the streamer had his minions mass report them. They were suspended.

Stream sniping is against twitch TOS, not Blizzards.

Mass report is a weapon being used by groups of players and I guarantee the streamer won’t be actioned.

No, I am serious. The reason our community is so toxic is because there are little to NO ramifications for it to happen. You enforce the rules and cause people to get muted or banned, then it will make you think about what you say.

You do NOT go around saying 90% of the stuff said in our community in real life encounters.

So, if you feel you need to walk on eggshells, perhaps that is a wakeup call.

Not dystopian at all. Called being a decent human to other humans.

This has been my TED talk.

Or its 2022, so many self-entitled Karren’s who think its ok to say whatever they want.

Who is triggered now?

in my experience the first people to cry and be sensitive over words is people like you who make posts like this

You gave the reporting player exactly what he wanted.

When it comes to automated banning systems they can absolutely be exploited. Having a human reside over bans or suspensions is absolutely necessary. I don’t understand why Blizzard relies on automated bans but then puts in the same exact man hours to manually review appeals to unban. They could avoid most unjust bans by simply having human “checkers” before an automated ban kicks off.

Some of you never grew up in xbox mw2 lobbies and it shows. People like you assume everything is an attack. I bet you report players for trying to be helpful.

Calls people “Karen” while wanting to control speech and actions. Amazing.

That’s because you aren’t understanding the problem. This isn’t a problem with rules and enforcement. There are no rules in an automated system. Blizzard can list out any rules they want, but they are irrelevant if they don’t act as an authority to enforce them.

Right now with the automated system everyone is only subjected to the whims of players. It doesn’t matter if “rules” are broken or not you can just report people for anything or even nothing and they will get suspended if they reach a threshold.

If you want or like rules then this is the exact opposite. Go watch something like Black Mirror (Nosedive) or Psycho Pass to know why these kinds of peer monitored social credit score automated systems are dystopian. Maybe eventually you can force everyone to be fake nice by having everyone scared to do or say anything that can be perceived as bad, but it is most definitely dystopian.

I just got back from a 2 week ban because some guy was afking a BG and i told him off. He obviously reported me, logged onto two other accounts and harassed and reported me again. I reported every person i saw for the entire two weeks for no reason. Now my ban is gone an i just trigger people intentionally and then report them so they get banned like i did. I have no intention on stopping but i’ll be more cautious of my words from now on!

It’s also easy to report players, especially being at the right place, but at the wrong time. AKA streamers. Do something to them that they do, and they get mad and have their viewers mass report. It’s actually sick if you think about it. It’s basically saying that only streamers can play the game and do what they want. I mean, you’ve heard streamers endorse gold buying, right? Why aren’t these streamers losing their accounts over this, but Joe Smoe gets banned for RMT gold? Heck don’t even get me started on win trading by streamers also.

People like that wont understand why mob rule is bad, until the mob comes after them.
