Authenticator's Move to the Blizzard App

If there is an explanation post about this somewhere and someone could link me I’d appreciate it.

Im trying to log into the blizzard app on my new phone, and when I do it asks me to verify my log in with the Authenticator. This was never a problem in the past, EXCEPT

The “the new home for the authenticator is inside the blizzard app” Seems like someone in the dev team hasn’t really thought this through, but maybe Im missing something.

I assume this change was made in order to allow Blizzard to keep the app on 24/7 in order to harvest user data. Normally I don’t care about that stuff but this is creating a legit inconvenience for me as a paying customer.

So what is the official work around for this “improvement”? How do I fix this problem?

Please help. I just wanna log in easily and play the game.

I’m not exactly understanding. They’ve combined the authenticator into a single app for WoW. This is, in and of itself, an improvement over having to install 2 separate apps.

What user data would they need to “harvest” that they don’t already have? They have your name, phone number, email and location all of which you’ve been totally okay with.

If you have feedback, you’ll want to use the following forum to provide feedback:

As for a work around, I imagine that there isn’t one.

From the Authenticator support article:

Postponing migration?

You are not required to migrate now. Your Battle.net Authenticator will continue to work within the old Battle.net Authenticator app for a limited time. However, if you uninstall your Authenticator app or change your mobile device and need to reinstall, you can install the new Battle.net mobile app.

As mentioned above, the Battle.net Authenticator feature is now available in the Battle.net mobile app. The Battle.net Authenticator app will soon be removed from all app stores and will no longer be available for download—you will keep using the Battle.net Authenticator through the Battle.net mobile app.

These are the instructions taken from the Support Article. This or similar steps are usually needed when you get a new phone in order to transfer the Authenticator to the new device if you didn’t remove it.

Don’t have access to the previous device?

If you no longer have access to your old device, you will need to click “Can’t Log In” on the login screen. If you have SMS setup you can verify your identity through SMS verification to remove the old authenticator from your account allowing you to set up the authenticator in the Battle.net mobile app. If you are unable to verify your account through SMS you will need to contact customer support for assistance with removing your old authenticator.

Note: The SMS verification code is sent to the phone number linked to your Battle.net account. If you changed your phone number you will need to update your Battle.net Account phone number before you can restore your Authenticator.

I’m not exactly certain what data you believe that we would “harvest”, Joainaones. I’d recommend reviewing our Privacy Policy and avoid rumors and conjecture.

Yes, they have combined the Authenticator into a single app. Which cannot be logged into with out access to the authenticator.

Open Battlenet app
Input email and password
App attempts to Log in
App Requests confirmation from authenticator (which is “behind the wall” of the app itself and cannot be accessed without logging in.

I need the code to open the app, which I can’t get becuase the code is INSIDE the app.

Do you understand why this is a problem?

I am still able to access and utilize the Authenticator on my Battle Net App without being logged in to the App itself.

So if I am logging in to the website, launcher, or game I can still access the Authenticator.

Just tested logging into the Battle Net app and it automatically accessed the Authenticator itself and logged me into the App.

Now, if you have not yet enabled the Authenticator within the Battle Net App, then logging in is problematic.

By chance, did you already remove your stand-alone Authenticator app? If so, the Authenticator stand-alone app is still available on the App Store for Apple at the time of this post. Not sure about Google Play Store though.

Which is why, if you read Vrak’s post above, they provided a link to submit a ticket and get assistance from a GM to help with your issue. Not everyone is running into this issue, else this forum and every other related one would be flooded with people.

If you think something different could be or should be done, then you are welcome to offer your feedback or suggestions in the proper places. This forum, as it is one for players to assist other players and not a contact point for the staff - it is not one of those places. You’re welcome to use the in-game suggestion interface, or even better would be to utilize the survey that you will get when your ticket is resolved, should you do as Vrak suggests.

I do wish you luck in getting this resolved.

o.O Been called many things, a bot isn’t one of them.

Do I tend to post this spiel many times over? Yep. Because most of the people who come here seeking help or just post thinking their posts will be seen by someone who can do something about their issue - they do not realize it or do not understand the true purpose of this forum.

I’ve been doing so for several years now (and coming up on 5k posts to boot). If there was an issue, I would have been pinged on it long before now. Now, if you’ve a question or an issue of your own, you’re certainly welcome to create your own post and the folks hanging around will try and either help resolve your issue or point you to the best place possible to receive any assistance that is beyond us regular players.
