I have a blizzard authenticator not the mobile one but I did not get the additional spaces in the bag. I don’t have a cell phone so the mobile one is no good for me. Suggestions
You need SMS as well.
what is SMS
Short Message Service - Texting.
edited to add - there are SMS services available without a phone, I think.
It means you need to enable authenticator alerts over your mobile phone number to have them sent to you as a text message or you can simply use the app instead.
I do not have a mobile phone. I have a land line.
I found that with a Google search. If you decide to go this route, please, please, please do your homework on these services.
If you’re not able to receive SMS text messages, I’m afraid you won’t be able to enable SMS protection, which is required (along with either a physical or mobile authenticator) to be eligible for the additional backpack slots.
thank you I was just googling to find out how I can do it. I do have an authenticator attached to my account. Not sure why I need another one. Blizz needs to look into it.
An Authenticator - and SMS are two entirely different things. Used for two entirely different purposes.
Are they both used to protect your account. I am not sure what additional protection I would receive.with SMS. Thank you for your quick responses.
I think they want people to have a phone attached to their account for recovery and security. It is another layer of protection to avoid account theft.
I think they just recently changed the requirement.
I attached my phone quite some time ago, so I wasn’t affected by this. I have saw a few questions about it around the game.
Thank you. My land line is VOIP and it can’t be used for authentication. I guess no additional bag slots for me. Thank you and everyone else for your responses,
It wasn’t a recent change, it has been a requirement since the extra bag slots were put in the game. SMS protect is NOT an authenticator and has nothing to do with the authenticator, you can have one or the other on an account without having both. All SMS protect does is allow Blizzard to send you text messages for certain account activities that might be an indication that an account is compromised.
I am not sure if you have looked into it yet or not but often times VoIP providers offer text messaging services to their customers via an application or online portal. Just something to look at if you have not yet done so.
Ok, that’s ridiculous that you have to have SMS. Not everyone has a cell phone or wants one. I’ve got two accounts one with Cell Phone/SMS Authentication and the other one with a physical authenticator. I can’t use my cell phone for both accounts because I get a message that my cell phone is associated with another account. I’m certainly not going to buy a throw away phone just to have Cell/SMS authentication on the other account. Come on Blizzard get real. Taking away the bag space on that account that doesn’t have Cell/SMS Authentication is so grade school.
No one on the CS forums will be able to change that as the blues here don’t make that call, nor do they past that feedback to someone else. If you wish to see this change, you could post your feedback on general forum.
Just to clarify, you aren’t losing anything by not having SMS Protect enabled with an Authenticator (re: your “taking away” claim).
The four backpack slots are incentive, meaning they’re extra. The backpack started as and still is sixteen slots.
That’s not even the worst part. The worst part is you need SMS on a carrier they approve of apparently. Cricket Wireless is a no-go even if you pay monthly for an unlimited plan. The whole system needs a rework.
