So confused on this I don’t know where to begin. Is there a checklist somewhere for the actions I need to take? “You are safe when you’ve done these things:” That would be really helpful.
As it stands, I have both the authenticator app and the battle.net app on my phone. But when I launch the battle.net app, it tells me to go approve a code in the authenticator (which is absurd, btw. If authenticator is going away, why are you locking battle.net behind it?). So I swap over to authenticator, tap Approve, then swap back to battle.net and…nothing. It just sits there still waiting for approval. I try again, and once again I’m told to go approve a new code in authenticator, so I swap over and tap Approve again, then swap back to battle.net and get the same result. It just sits there still waiting for approval.
What do I need to do, and at what point is it safe to delete the authenticator app?
If you already migrated over to the Battle.net Mobile App you don’t need the Authenticator App on your phone anymore.
When logging into the Battle.net Mobile App, does it ever successfully log in? Can you manually copy the code from the Authenticator App and input it for the Bnet app?
I’ll outline my experience in detail, and hopefully you can tell me what I’m doing wrong.
Launch battl.net app. Presented with a screen that says the authenticator now lives within the battle.net app. Theres a login button, which I tap.
Taken to a battle.net login screen. I input my username/password. It then tells me to go check my authenticator app and approve the request.
I launch authenticator and get a screen saying the app is being retired. There’s a button to go download battle.net, which I’ve already done. I tap the ‘x’ at the top. It gives me a warning telling me my authenticator will be removed from my account if I don’t migrate by Jan 5th. I tap the “I understand (dismiss warning)” link.
The authenticator then displays the login request matching the code from the battle.net app. I tap approve. It turns green and says request approved. I swap back over to the battle.net app.
Battle.net app is still at the same screen, telling me to go approve the login request in Authenticator.
If I tap “Use authenticator security code”, sometimes it will then log me in to battle.net, and other times it takes me right back to the battle.net app login screen.
Are you able to tap the Authenticator on the Battle.net Mobile App to verify that the Authenticator is active there? If so, you should be good to remove the Authenticator app. Having both might be causing the issue if you had migrated.
Check the Battle.net App by clicking on the gear in the upper right corner of the Authenticator screen. See if you have a Serial & Restore Code listed there.
If you continue to have trouble it might be best to just remove the Authenticator temporarily and attach it using only the Battle.net Mobile App, which you should be able to do if you still have access to the Authenticator App.
Within the authenticator app, I didn’t see a gear icon but I did tap the three dots in the upper right corner and selected “Serial & Restore”, and it does provide me with a code for each.
In the Battle.net app, under the “Security Checkup” section, it says 100% complete and has green checkmarks next to email verified, authenticator attached, and phone number verified
Something different happened this time. I looked in the battle.net app but there wasn’t an Authenticator section to it. There was a Security section, but no Authenticator. So I closed the battle.net app and the authenticator app and decided to start fresh. Tapped login on Battle.net, got sent to Authenticator to approve the request, battle.net app still not registering that I approved the request, so I tapped “Use authenticator security code”…
…and this time it logged me into Battle.net but it looked like a different app, and there was a prompt at the top of the screen to enable authenticator. I tapped enable, then got a confirmation screen that my authenticator had been enabled, and it dropped me in the friends menu of the battle.net app (which now looks completely different). From here I was able to find the Authenticator section you showed in the screenshots above, and I verified that I do still have Serial & Restore codes.
