Authenticator not working

I have the mobile authenticator set up, which works on the Blizzard website but it does not work when logging into World of Warcraft. I noticed that when logging into the website there are large green letters/numbers that I need to verify are the same on my authenticator. These do not appear when the authenticator request appears on World of Warcraft, which makes me think that it is using a different authentication process for some reason rather than the mobile one? I looked through other topics and didn’t see an answer to this problem that didn’t involve opening a ticket somewhere. Please let me know what to do from here.

Can you still manually enter an authentication code made from the app to type into World of Warcraft? If not, might need to submit a ticket.

It asks for a manual code entry, while when logging into the website it just automatically enters when I press verify in the authenticator/app.

Ok, if manually logging into World of Warcraft itself via the game client, it will only give the option to manually enter the code. That is the limitation of the game client.

It is the Website and the Battle.net Application that will come up with the option to verify with a press of a button from the phone. And hitting play from the Battle.net application shouldn’t require for you to authenticate your account when trying to connect to the game.

Yes, that option never comes up when the game client asks for authentication, but it does when logging into the website. The authenticator doesn’t seem to be getting the request from the game client.

I’m also getting login issues, I keep getting the authenticator required bit and it keeps giving the some thing went wrong issue. If it manages to get the code through rather then giving that error it only sends me to the message to retry or go offline mode.

Because that is the limitation of the game client. The game client doesn’t have a way to authenticate when logging in the same way the Battle.net application or Blizzard’s websites.

The game client can only authenticate with manual codes, and not a notification with an option from your phone.

Sure, so where then does the code populate? It isn’t populating anywhere in the authenticator, and I am also not getting an email with a code.

Do you not see the “Enter Code Manually” on the app?

Should be right down at the bottom.

I’ve attempted that already before even posting in here, It doesn’t work to try manually entering the code either. Every option that requires going through the authenticator fails to login, Can’t even go to account setting to attempt disabling it to skip that whole thing till they fix it since your settings area is also blocked behind the authenticator.

It sounds like this player is not logging in with the battle.net desktop app. Using stand alone wow requires you to manually enter the code as explained above. OP it is far easier to manage blizzard games if you are using the battle.net desktop app.

Have you tried simply rebooting your phone and computer? I know people hate hearing that as advice, but it often gets things back into order.

If that doesn’t work, you might need to uninstall and re-install the authenticator from your phone/device. BEFORE YOU DO, please make sure you copy down (or take a screenshot) of the Serial and Restore Codes. You can find this when you are on the screen that shows “No login requests” and click the cog in that small window.

You will see where those codes are.

Once you have them, you can try uninstalling the app from your phone/device and re-downloading it and installing it again.

I’d use that as a last resort though.

Restarting my phone and computer doesn’t work, Also the page where it would show authentication request is stuck on a endless loading request issue that just gives a “Opps, something went wrong” error after taking long enough that my phone screen went black. I also checked for the serial and restore codes and that page is blank in the portion where both codes should be located.

Yeah, sound like you’re going to need to get Blizzard to lend a hand at this point.

This link should help:

Thanks it did help, It sent me to a page saying “An error has occurred” with link for going back to account management and so I was able to remove the Authenticator and finally able to log into my account.

For anyone struggling with this, I was facing the same problem this morning.

You can remove the authenticator and log in, however when you try to add the authenticator back in the mobile app you get “oops…something went wrong (unknown)” errors.

May be something on blizzards end. Tried it on two different phones.
