Authenticator moved to Battle.net app

Neat. Except you have to download the Bnet app onto your phone, then log in and

and

and

it asks you for an authenticator code to log in.

The authenticator that is now locked behind the bnet app

That I cannot log into

Because it wants an authenticator code.

Ironically - I just did the switch over myself. Did you uninstall the original authenticator app before downloading the other? It sent the auth code to the original app and I swapped over without an issue.

Did you uninstall the authenticator app? You could try reinstalling it before transitioning to the Battle.net app. That is the way I did it, once i got the Battle.net app running I uninstalled the authenticator.

Indeed. Having the Authenticator app still on your phone seems to be necessary to switch it over.

Unfortunately, it you don’t have access to the app you will need to select the “Can’t Log In” option. If your phone number is attached to the account you should be able to use SMS Protect to remove the Authenticator so you can set it up again.

Here is the Support Article for those who may come across this thread in the future. It is the section under Upgrading or Replacing your Device.

Wait, is the old authenticator app already deprecated? 25 days ago Nethaera said that it would be “deprecated in time.” Has this already occurred?

Not yet, and you do NOT want to uninstall it prior to installing the battlenet app or you will be blocked from being able to activate the new app. Once you have installed and activated the new app, you can safely delete the older app.

I did not get a code on my new app when I tried to re-sign in recently. It only came through on the first attempt. I cannot find the OTP in the new app. I had to resort to my old authenticator.

Where is the OTP in case my game asks me to enter it in manually?

From the main screen in the app, you should find an icon in the top right of the screen. Tap that, then on Authenticator and the option for a manual code is there

On social its a “Search”, and on Games it is a sorting option.

Please provide step by step instructions.

Edit: found it. Social tab, Upper left, in the profile settings under “authenticator.” Thank you for trying to help.

This makes no sense to me. If I select the “Can’t Log In” option, I get the option to remove the authenticator, forgot your password, forgot your email address, and battle.net account is locked. The last time I removed the authenticator, support flat out refused to help me reattach it claiming it was a problem with my phone carrier’s SMS service… which it was not, of course. I had to buy a cheapo phone to resolve this problem on my own, based on another player’s suggestion to try it from a different phone. I don’t want to remove the authenticator again and go through that BS again. I don’t have faith anymore now than I did then that someone from support will help me with this. Also, like last time, I looked at the instructions (the support person linked earlier in the thread) and like last time, the instructions don’t work. They do not match what I am seeing on my phone. The instructions say:

  1. If you are not prompted to enable the Authenticator (which I was not):
  2. Open the slide out menu by tapping the icon at the top left of your screen
  3. Click on “Authenticator”

What slide out menu? I don’t see a slide out menu. When I try to access any “slide out menu” it just takes me back to the log in screen. If I go to the authenticator like it suggests further down in the page, then it tells me there a request error.

Oh my stuck in another ridiculous authenticator loop. What am I to do?

Really, any thoughts are appreciated…

I am also having the same issue for the past 2 hours. I have done everything mentioned in this thread and def stuck in the Ridiculous Authenticator Loop. I can’t login to the battle net app, desktop or website. Thankfully this blizzard site has not kicked me off yet. I did contact customer support and asked to remove the authenticator for the time being so I can login and do a reset. But of course their response is within 24 hours and who knows when I will hear back from them. Hopefully they do send it to my account email so I can see it. Otherwise I can’t see any responses on my battlenet account… or maybe a blue can respond to my reply to give me some kind of update.

So frustrated about this and literally a sitting duck until customer support responds to my ticket.

I know what the problem is for me: when I get past the authenticator to log in on the battlenet app, it takes me, inside the battlenet app, to the webpage for battle.net, instead of to the app itself, so the authenticator just isn’t there. no way to get to it

If you mean what I think you do - tap on your name in the top left. A menu will slide out and Authenticator is one of the items on it. Tap that.

I’m trying to figure out why mine decided yesterday that I had to go through that and enter code manually, instead of just giving me the notification for me to approve/deny.

There is no “my name on the left”. it takes me to https://account.battle.net/ inside the app, and there is no way to get into the app-type functionality and out of the browser I can find. if I close the browser it takes me to the login screen inside the app, which only leads back to the browser

but detaching and reattaching the authenticator fixed the app

Can we get AI to come up with a new way to authenticate accounts already?! With all the accounts people have these days that require multiple layers of authentication, this is turning into a nightmare.

We can’t even get AI to answer simple questions about NYC small business rules and laws, do you really want it being in charge of the security of your accounts?
