Authenticator migration issues

I had the mobile authenticator app. I have the identifying information; I’ve got the serial number and the restore code; but I do not have the deprecated mobile authenticator app. I do have the battle.net app now; but it won’t go past “enter authenticator code” and trying to get a support ticket to open in battle.net is a lost cause. Apparently this seemless migration to the new battle.net app wasn’t really seemless and now I’m afraid to click anything because none of the online help documents are actually of any help. I can currently log into the games I want to play on my desktop and I seriously do not want to break those leading into a weekend. I would just like to open a support ticket and get some instructions that relate directly to:

  1. Have a battle.net desktop login that works
  2. desktop login to games work
  3. Original Mobile authenticator app is no longer on my phone (same old phone)
  4. New Battle.net app on my phone won’t go past “authenticator code”
  5. Can not login to account.battle.net on my phone
  6. My battle.net account does have a working email and working mobile phone number attached. It also has a non functioning mobile authenticator attached (see not so seemless migration comment above)

Removing an existing authenticator when I can currently get into the games I want to play seems like a really bad idea going into a weekend; and with the recent spat of login issues.

You should be able to install it, then use the old app to migrate to the bnet app.

To add also, there were login issues that may be causing other related login issues.

Have you tried re-installing the original authenticator app from your phone’s app store?

I still have mine installed on my iPhone and it still shows up when I search the Apple store.

I re-installed the orginal authenticator app, when I launch it displays "The Authenticator has a new home! and the only option is “Take Me There” it wouldn’t give me the code the new authenticator app wants.

That article is either out of date, or inaccurate because the steps and directions do not match what is happening in the new app.

It shouldn’t be giving you a manual code, but pushing the accept/reject prompt to your notifications.

Look on the top left. For me there was a X to close

X to close

Start setting up, but then get stuck. But now I’m in an area where mobile internet is pretty flaky so can’t check it again.

There’s an issue with the bnet app authenticator and 3rd party api calls. I can’t authenticate using this process, which unfortunately for me, is the only process. “Oops something went wrong” is the consistent messaging on the app for this.

That error usually indicates that you are attempting to set up the Authenticator when you already have one attached. Which process are you attempting to do?

If you are unable to migrate the Authenticator over, Xerous, you may need to have it removed first.

I don’t understand. I’ve had an authenticator since physical authenticators were released. I’m attempting to login to a 3rd party site that leverages Google account authentication as an option (which I have selected for my Battle.net account).

The site requests the 2 factor authentication that I NEVER receive. When I open the Battle.net app on my phone > Authenticator there are zero requests. When I click “enter code manually” I can’t actually do anything to enter any codes. Because I generally think the issue is my fault, I asked my wife to try the same thing on Android and she received the same experience.

When You open the app initially on Android there’s a message at the bottom “Oops something went wrong.”

Forgive me, Xerous, I’m not sure I fully understand. You are attempting to log into a third party site that isn’t a Blizzard site? Using a Google Account Authentication?

Which App? The Battle.net Authenticator or the Battle.net App?

Can you provide any screenshots of any kind to help us get an idea of what you are seeing? Blocking out any personal information, of course.

You have 3rd party sites that “sync” Battle.net account data: wowhead.com, raider.io, etc. to populate character information for a number of things like boss kill status, m+ status, etc. I attempted this specifically on raider.io when the site asks to refresh my battle.net account data. I get the battle.net login page, then have options to choose from with how I authenticate to my battle.net account. My specific option is through Google services. I select that. Then the 2 factor request comes in which I never receive.

This is the battle.net app on Android specifically. When I visit the app, I get the following error message at the bottom of the app: https://photos.app.goo.gl/CtGEVg82QYrTVMpT7)

Quick note: I just tried this on the blizzard forums and I received the same experience Screenshot below. I never receive the authentication request.

Google Photos

So if you click on your portrait in the upper left corner of the app, where you get the screen you are showing here, do you see “Authenticator” under that, just below My Profile?

If it is there, do you get an error clicking on it? Or can you select Enter Code Manually?

Thank you, by the way. That gives a much clearer picture of what you are attempting and seeing. Sometimes half the battle is trying to figure that part out.

I can click the authenticator link, but there are no requests to approve. Even after going through authentication for the Blizzard forums here. When I select “enter code manually” I can’t do anything. It’s just a page and there are no options on the page to enter any codes.

So this is the page that you see? Or something like it.

And you are selecting the Google icon when attempting to log in? Or are you putting in an email/phone# and password?

I assume you tried it, but if you haven’t already what happens if you enter your battle.net info to log in? If you can.

I have a pixel, and not getting any errors when I tried so I’m not sure if it is based on a specific model or something else is going on.

Yes. I get past this screen just fine. I select the Google icon, then get the 2 factor prompt following this. That’s where I dead end. Edit: Let me try entering manually.

Hopefully that works.

I don’t know if there is any other troubleshooting that I can suggest, but we definitely want to try and get the issue resolved so I’d recommend posting in the Battle.net Mobile Bug Report forum. Provide similar details that you have here so the QA staff can run through what may be happening (including what model of phone you are using).
