So, my friends can’t make mythic groups because of the new authenticator requirement. Neither of them can get one set up (One does NOT have cellphone service, and the other lives in Norway).
Would it be possible for them to use another friends phone number to get these set up?
What would be the best way to fix this? We found out that one of them (who is our raid lead and lives in Norway) can’t even post for raids after we’ve killed a boss because it asks for a title, but he can’t add one.
There really isn’t a workaround, and there shouldn’t be. This feature was put into place for a reason. It kind of falls under that “this is why we can’t have nice things”, where unfortunately some innocent people get caught in the cross-fire due to people abusing things.
Perhaps in time there will be some other way to authenticate folks, but until that time? People who have authenticators will need to be leading so they can alter the listings.
Honestly, some phones can allow you to make and receive calls as well as text messages if connected to a Wireless Network (Wi-Fi). I know this, because my phone does it assuming that the number is active and have phone credit on it. And some phone networks allow features like this. It is always best to look over the internet, depending on the country you’re in, on these sort of features and the type of phones that can do it.
If your friend can connect to the internet to play WoW, then surely he should be able to have a phone with a wireless connection to the internet.
The authenticator app is not attached to a phone number (wait you say ? what ???) you can install it and set it up on a tablet if they have one (android or iPad) then use that. the SMS thing is separate from the authenticator.
Adding a phone number appears part of the process of setting up the mobile authenticator these days.
I had to transit from the physical authenticator a few days ago; battery issues. I had to add my phone number, although I did remove it ASAP afterward.
ahh that seems like a new change (have had the mobile since the day it came out and a physical in a drawer just in case - which I used from release until the mobile came out)
That used to be the case yes. That changed a little while back where now one of the steps is including a phone number to be sent a verification code in order to add an authenticator.
I’m just not too sure if international numbers can be used or not. I wonder if the OP’s account might still be listed as their address being in the NA region which would make the UK phone number invalid/error out.
I am sorry for the frustration, Fangtormori, but at the moment to use the custom messaging in the LFG tool you need both an Authenticator and Blizzard Phone Notification active.
Without it you may still use the LFG tool normally but won’t have the ability to use custom messaging.
I’m sorry to hear it but that is entirely your choice. Customer Support has no influence over the systems and content in the game. If you have feedback it would be best directed towards our Game Developers.
