Ok, so not sure what to do. I started this new account 3 weeks ago and just today I setup phone number and tried to do the authenticator and said I have done it on too many licenses. I have 8 kids and a wife that all have/had their own accounts over the last 5 years (I am just now getting around to play) and I used my phone for all of their authenticator apps so I could monitor and control their playing (frankly not fully understanding, was probably a mistake). Well, now that I want my own account and they no longer platy I can’t attach an authenticator it on my phone lol… so odd
Can I get reset back down to zero or whatever? No one has the authenticator on my phone attached to their account any more, so I would be the only one. just not sure what to do and just want to secure account.
I hope I explained that properly. Thanks in advance.
Once upon a time you could attach a Blizzard Authenticator to more than one Battlenet account. It was just a matter of entering the serial number.
There was a change a year or two ago that retired that version of the Authenticator. It is now integrated into the Battlenet app and requires a valid non-VOIP phone number to set up. That phone number can only be used on one Battlenet account.
(updated toon)
No, because I had 7 or so accounts that all used one authenticator/phone at different times. and it wasn’t connected to the phone number, it was connected to the mobile phone software. You can attach a phone number and then that same phone the authenticator but that isn’t the same thing (iirc). Just kinda want a ceal wipe from my phone so I can get this one secure.
That’s gone back and forth between multiples and single accounts.
Old ones were grandfathered, you just can’t add any new ones.
To use an existing number, you’ll want to appeal to have the other accounts with that number be removed - not great, because that then opens them up, but that is the way it works. If you have access to another number that would be a far better solution although I realize that may not be possible.
Assuming your children and wife have their own battle.net accounts, an alternative to simply submitting a ticket to have the number cleared from all accounts which could leave them as vulnerable, would be to log into each account, and update them to point to the correct phone number for each user, this will help should they choose to play WOW or other Blizzard games in the future.
So it is not connected to the phone number, the phone number was used no problem. Its all about the authenticator app on my phone. Here is the error I got:
This authenticator has reached the maximum number of Battle.net Accounts it can be attached to. For more details, refer to the Battle.net Authenticator FAQ.
So I need like a hard reset or something on your guys side to make this account secure
How can I get that done? Here is the serial number i use when setting it up that gives the error:
Did you have the phone number linked on other accounts?
Can I use the same Authenticator Serial Number to secure more than one Battle.net Account?
The Battle.net Authenticator requires a phone number be attached to an account, and a phone number can only be attached to a single Battle.net Account.
As Orlyia said, going to need to contact support to appeal to remove the phone number from the old accounts.
Ok, again… the phone number has nothing to do with it. That worked fine. Its the phone (hardware) that has the authenticator app on it that is refusing it.
The limit was always 3, I think. Now it is still 3 but you can’t add the Auth without also adding a phone number which can only be used once. To re-use a phone number it has to be removed from the bnet it is tied to.
It sounds like you either hit the limit on Auth uses, or you are getting an incorrect error message that is probably related to the phone number.
If you are getting a max number of accounts error, you may need to go into which ever Battlenet account(s) that doesn’t need the authenticator, go to the Security tab and use the “Detach authenticator” option. That might free up a slot to add it to another account.
However, adding an authenticator to more than one Battlenet account is a fairly tedious process because of the single use phone number requirement. Last I heard, it’s possible, and there was a time when I wanted to put it on two of my accounts. But when I learned what was involved I decided to forget it.
Like Orlyia mentioned, multiple uses of the same phone number was allowed in the past, and those that were using it more than oncce were grandfathered into the new rules. However, now, the system won’t allow it. I just mention it if you also run into that as a problem as well.
EDIT:
I looked up the support article about attaching to multiple accounts. Unfortunately, it states that it can only be attached to one account. Meaning, if one tries to attach to more that one and runs into any snags, Support won’t be able to assist.
