Authenticator is broken

I got a message saying the authenticator has moved to the battle.net app. Cool, I download the battle.net app and when logging in asks me to authenticate.

Genius, the authenticator doesn’t work anymore (because it moved to the battle.net app I now cannot log into?). The one button request says request error and entering the code manually just says the code is invalid.

Looking to reinstall I see a restore and reset option. I go to the restore option and all it does is gives me a serial # and a restore code. No ACTUAL option to restore my authenticator.

Great, super clear app options, so I back out and there’s a reset option. Is this the same as restore? Is it a different thing? No f’in clue some hesitation I try the reset option. Okay cool, now it wants me to type in the SMS code from my phone. Easy right? Yea not so lucky, I try that and the authenticator just spits out a 502 bad gateway error

I’ve officially run out of options, please help me resolve my authenticator issue before the bnet client asks for it again and I get locked out of my account!

Did you have a physical authenticator and did you remove it?

That might be the cause of the troubles.

Try removing your physical authenticator (if you actually had one).

You can still have the stand alone authenticator on Android, not sure about Iphone. But it should allow you to authenticate the new login on the bnet app through the old device.

If not, do you have SMS also, the text system to help make changes to your account if needed. Hopefully the number if changed in the past.

If nothing works, you will need to put in a ticket, be prepared though for some self help systems that might not work either.

nope I’ve never used a physical authenticator

it’s the same iphone and it does not authenticate, one button format says request error and the manual code comes up as invalid. The SMS system I tried using to reset the authenticator and that just gives a 502 bad gateway error. I’ll try and find out where to submit a ticket

You may still have to remove your authenticator in order to reinstate it.

Follow the link I gave you.

Thank you it let me remove it, I assumed I’d need to use my anthenticator to confirm the removal. I was able to successfully re-enable the authenticator on the battle.net app, thanks!

it will happen again. My Bnet app never lets me stay signed in. And therefore I need auth code to sign-in. Exactly right, you cannot log into the Bnet app because you cannot get the auth code. No option now to get text for whatever reason. Not exactly smart. See the issue???

pretty sure they are dumping it. Then what? You need to authenticate, to get to the authenticator!

They are but its rolled into the mobile app.

You have to migrate the authentecator to the battlenet app.

I’d open a ticket at that point, if you can’t migrate to the new app. Not sure why you could not get a text though, unless for some reason you did not have the same phone number, but billing should be able to sorty this out.

I get what you are trying to say. But it all worked fine, until you are logged out of the Bnet app. So every time this happens, we have to use a work-around to auth to the bnet app?
If only we could default to SMS instead of authenticator, /sigh
I have 2 accounts. One I was able to tell it to send SMS. The other account it gave no option. Just frustrating (and yes I have a work cell and personal, one ph # per account)
I will have to see what I can do. As of now, I was just able to disable authenticator on both accounts finally. But not feeling good about security now LOL

I am not trying to say anything. I’m not sure what you mean by work around. The auth and bnet app should technically use the same authentecator. It should only use SMS if you try to remove the authentecator or change your password. If you can remove the authentecator, you can try that first and set up a new serial number and restore code in the bnet app. If you need assistance, open a ticket.
