So I went to my google app store and re-installed it on my phone, but the app people want to charge me for its use. Must I re-purchase it?
It is in the battle.net app now and is free.
I have battlenet installed as far as the forums (not the game), but thought I had to look for the authenticator, which I found and installed. Just not sure what to do next if it comes up and wants a number, because none will show up on the authenticator itself. Admittedly, at 74, except for the game, I’m technically not too bright. Thanks!
You need to remove the app you installed called “Authenticator” and install a different app called “Battle.net” from Blizzard on the phone, not the computer.
Here are the links for both mobile operating system versions:
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blizzard.messenger
iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/battle-net/id1241040030
Thank you, Elocin. I uninstalled “Authenticator”, but already had blizz messenger installed on my phone. I wasn’t trying to install it from my rig, because google play doesn’t work for me on my computer, only on chrome notebooks (or so it says). Since I already have messenger loaded on the phone, do I need to do anything else? Sorry, not being obtuse, and as I like to say, we boomers aren’t necessarily dumb, just old and inexperienced technologically. Thanks for the help (again)!
It isn’t clear if you have the battle.net app on your phone. Can you check and see if you have the app named “battle.net” on your phone and it works?
Yes, I do and it does work, Zungar. I can see my friends talking to me in chat on my phone.
That’s the correct app. The most obvious functions are social and shopping: the authenticator functions are buried in a different menu.
You said you had a keyfob authenticator on your account before its battery died. Did you put in a GM ticket to have the failed authenticator removed from the account? You have to do that before you are allowed to attach the new authenticator to your account.
In the upper left corner should be a circle that may look like your profile picture - mine is blank so it is a blue person outline. If you tap that it should open up the menu and there should be an option for Authenticator.
If you tap that, it should pop up a little window - if you need to use the serial and restore codes, the settings wheel in the upper right of authenticator window should get you to those options.
The authenticator in the battle.net app is generally automatic. You will receive a popup if a login needs approved (though you can get a code the old fashioned way if you want).
The migration from the old RSA app to the battle.net app was done some time ago, but people that were away from the game when it happened may not have known what to do.
Sniperorc!!! Great to see you! I have not done that, but I will, thanks for letting me know!
I beg to differ. Boomers, standing on the shoulders of the giants like Alan Turing and Grace Hopper, built the Internet, Personal Computers, e-mail and mobile phones. Remember Bill Gates, Steve Job, Steve Wozniak, Brian Kernighan (co-developer of Unix and C language) are all boomers.
I happily stand corrected, Blimpo!
Thanks!
