Authenticator for 2nd Account: Unable to use cellphone number twice

Good morning!

Like many of the people who are adding the authenticator for the added bagslots, I fulfilled this process myself last night with my primary account, and was able to get my 2nd account synced as well, with the exception of finalizing the phone number for SMS retrieval.

I get the error message that “This phone number is already in use by another account”, while I still need to complete this step to receive my slots. Is there a work-around for people who do not have a second phone number to attach to, or plans to allow duplicate usage of the same phone number? I’m sure there are a few others wondering, especially the guild banks of Azeroth!

Thank you
DBC

Unfortunately, it is my understand g that a phone number can only be registered to one bnet account. Are both your classic accounts attached t ok a single bnet, or are they on two separate bnet accounts?

In order to use your phone number, you will have to remove it from one, to put it on the other. If that is the route you are wanting to go.

They are both on separate Bnet accounts, and if the phone number is removed from the main account, then I will lose the bagslots from that account. As advertised, up to 3 accounts can be tied to the same authenticator on the mobile device, but only ONE account apparently can be tied to a phone number (SMS). This is the inconsistency for people with 2-3 accounts that needs a resolution/work-around.

The phone number can be used as a username or to recover a username. Neither of these would work if a phone number could be on multiple accounts, so it sounds like it’s intentional. If I recall correctly, weren’t authenticator’s limited to one account per auth for a while too?

SMS protection is a different beast than an Authenticator. There are likely a lot of laws that govern what Blizzard can do with a mobile number, especially since there could be a fee attached to each message.

But if you would like to see a change, you will need to post in General or use the in-game Suggestion tool.

They were initially. The mobile Authenticators can be used for up to 3 Battle.net accounts.

I’m afraid a phone number can currently onlybe associated with a single account though. That may be a limitation that cannot be circumvented.

There is not.

Not something customer support would know, or if they did, not something they could discuss as they are not directly involved in the development of the security systems and could not speak on features until they time they are implemented.

Indeed they were.
