Not nessairly. Take the tmog market for example. For someone to make consistent tmog sales they need to post at least 200-500 items up at once because of how slow it sells. It sells but slowly. With this change the amount of tmog available is going to plummet. I play on a high pop server and my saying is, ‘Everything sells… Eventually’ well now I can post all the random knick knacks because it would take me 2 hours to do so. This limits markets severly to people only posting current xpac materials that move quickly or posting old content items at much higher prices to match the slower selling time.
But it means you have less money left over after buying your weekly consumablesto spend on things you want such as mounts or tmog.
I have crap tons of gold from buying wow tokens, as i have a job i would rather just buy gold then farm it, its not a problem. Hell this could make gold worth more in the long run then i’ll get more bang for my buck, win win for me.
But, see many people would rather make gold by playing the game instead of essentially ‘paying to win’. And imo if anything these changes by scaring away AH players is going to decrease the value of gold in the long run as inflation would increase due to less goods being introduced to the economy while the amount of gold stays on its course. As such your overall spending power decreases with less availability.
This change is disheartening. Before this change I would spend 30ish minutes to re-post auctions once a day, but re-posting after this change took me nearly 2 hours. This essentially takes away a large part of why I play the game.
I was glad when the spider and the brutasaur mounts were added to the game, and double glad when they were labelled not as gold sinks but as end game goals for the gold farming community. It was recognising a community of players in the game way final boss raid mounts or pvp titles does.
This change is to the gold making community what a 10 minute boss respawn timer after a wipe would be the raiding community or a daily cap to how many arenas you can take part in for the pvp community.
The sad part is that wow has one of the worst auction houses in the MMO genre, and instead of fixing it from the ground up bandaid after bandaid was applied. Since those bandaids didn’t stop the bleeding they nuked the entire system. This sort of design decision is, like I said earlier, completely disheartening. It won’t even balance the playing field, it will just make a larger gap between the top and the bottom.
Blizzard honestly needs to consult an economist or something about their current system.
This change seems rather lazy tbqh. The concept or problem is a nice one to fix, but the execution seems extremely poor.
So from the blue post the issue is querying the AH server too much. Why not allow for batch querying? Say I want to post 100 different items, allow the system to put all 100 items into the UI and into server ping msg for all of those items prices returned as one thing rather than 100.
By allowing this Blizzard would cut down on querying to the AH by a lot, especially for glyphs, transmogs, old mats, items with different modifiers.
It literally fixes the problem better than the implementation Blizzard did. I can only see the implementation being done the way it was because it was insanely easy and took maybe 15 minutes to implement by someone who knows the codebase for AH querying.
Well. I laboriously posted all my auctions. My wrist hurts SO much right now. That alone will prevent me from posting tomorrow. Who else isn’t posting tomorrow? That is your outcome, Blizz.
Why now? Is a very good question
Definitely a yay, glad to see it. People are relying far to much on the automation of the AH and not even paying attention to the markets or what they can make on things just trying to get anything.
In other words value is being destroyed and there are a LOT OF NOOBS and clowns in the AH right now trying to make anything at all so they can hopefully get the Brutosaur before it “goes away”.
Items are ridiculously low valued and priced and the automation of the AH is a large part of it, not all of it but a large part of it.
Yes i use addon’s but i don’t use them for everything and i have thought for quite awhile that TSM needs to be broken or modified and this is going to do that somewhat without fully breaking the addon. It has many good uses about it and is valuable for more then just automating AH posting.
But yea i am enjoying the crying and tears that people are having over this, i am happy and i hope they do more. They are not fully leveling the playing field, but people will have to actually put some thought into what they do instead of press a button and repost continuously and sniping things.
Thank you Blizzard for doing this and i hope you do more to restore value to the AH.
I can only beg them to revert this change.
AH’ing was the last fun thing to do in the game. I was getting extremely good at it raking in 2-300k/day. Now That’s dropped by 2/3, it’s so terrible. The AH is unplayable this way.
Help me obi-blizz kenobi, you’re my only hope.
Yep, if you are just posting your 3 linen cloth, you shouldn’t have a problem.
Why should I?
Gave it a go this morning after the changes.
Transmog / Pet sales are now impossible. In the numbers I have to post to make this worthwhile, the AH just shuts down. Since this is my bread and butter for using the AH I guess I am done. With how the endgame played out, this was what was keeping me playing Wow.
Time to unsub.
I work a full time job and do all the other things you have mentioned and I’ve cleared 900k in sales over the last two weeks just from farming herbs and ore a few hours a day. It is possible.
I buy and sell transmog, I do not multibox or group farm. I make on average one token per month in gold from transmog sales. I have to post between 400-500 auctions daily to bring that measly amount in these days. Today when I logged in, that process went from a 20-minute minor inconvenience to an hour of an activity that was about on par with waiting for a fish to bite. I think it’s utter bullcrap. They need to revert this asanine “fix”.
That’s a way to ruin the chance for alot of players to get the Longboi before Shadowlands.
Just remove the AH from the game instead, Blizzard 1 IQ.
eh who cares, its just the ah.
The way I typically PVP is to maybe do a few BGs a week. Would that be a good reason to limit all players to a few BGs a week? I’m sure they’d save some server costs that way.
Did the dev who made this change ever spend play time focused on the economy aspects of the game? Or just assumed all players played like they did?
Someone that deals in lots of xmogs, pets etc it now takes me forever to cancel/repost my auctions. It is like REALLY bad lag and being from Philippines I know LAG. It just makes me want to quit as I see now more than ever Blizzard has lost sight with its customers.
It is ONCE again Blizzard hurting everyone rather than addressing the issue properly, (Classic 30 instance limit), now we are punished for other who abuse the AH???
Its like your older brother/sister who always gets in trouble then your mom (Blizzard) punishes you both. It is getting to the point I think Blizzard wants to drive everyone away.
