Attunements were removed in OG TBC so this literally has nothing to do with Retail.

There are more people who are either in favor of the change or just wildly indifferent. Attunements don’t really fit with how the player base has changed. If the player base were consistently growing, there would be cohorts moving through attunement phases regularly, but that’s just not how it is anymore. The masses move at once at the start, then transition to boom/bust cycles as content launches then settles.
At this point, most players have 2-3 characters fully attuned, if not just their mains. Aside from willfully obtuse types, you’d be hard pressed to find people who really are dead set on attunements staying longer than P4 anyway.

The BT/Hyjal attunements were removed in patch 2.4 (feb 2008). Perhaps it’s a bit soonish considering Jan 27 was the launch of phase 3, but it is following the OG TBC timeline. There are differences of course in that Hyjal was available at launch in OG TBC and BT was May 2007. It’s not a huge stretch that they would remove these attunements and has nothing to do with retail.

Can I subscribe to your toxic elitest newsletter please? Oh god you mean some alt or new player can just stroll right into the raid I have been clearing for 2 months! HOW UNFAIR!

People need to stop complaining about changes that were IN the original game. Blizzard might not be following the original timeline, but the changes DID happen.

I got 9 70’s on my account. You think I want to run 9x Attunements in order to play the character I want?
I think attunements have their place, but TBC took them way too far. Someone walks into an open space but for some reason a wall hits someone else - for no logical reason. In TBC it’s not just touching a fragment outside molten core that you can do solo with 2 invis pots, or killing a mob that respawns every 5 minutes outside BWL and getting an invite to a cleared UBRS, or running 10 scholomance/stratud’s for AD honored.
Apart from my own personal benefits I am glad to see them gone.

Attunements being removed is excellent for the game. It makes getting new players into the game easy, and getting alts up to speed easy as well. People will cry about literally anything

yes but quite later on
game is bleeding subs left and right shadowlands was a mistake
it makes sense to streamline whats left and try to keep subs before Q report arrives
blizz is playing the short term game after all , the game itself be dammed
I have one character attuned to Hyjal and BT, but my other 70’s were in various stages of those attunements and I am thrilled they are now gone. It’s a horrible mechanic. I can now play what I want.
There are plenty of patterns and bop crafted items to fill in gear if you have full T4 and Gruuls/Mags stuff. ZA will only improve this.
For example, my warrior wasn’t attuned, but needed vortexes for the drake hammer and was now able to buy those and complete the weapon. This is something that would have been impossible during Phase 1 and difficult to do even during Phase 2, because you need so many. That, plus the towers farming and crafteables from SSC/TK/Hyjal will help gear up the folks that haven’t entered Hyjal/BT yet.
Im not upset about them removing attunements, Im upset that they so freely change the timelines of when things release or are changed, and then change whatever else they like, but when it comes to suggested changes that would actually improve the game for the better they are either dead silent on the subject or they say “ohhh noo… its too soon for that… we are not ready for that yet” its frustrating…

So get attuned. But it’s not longer a requirement. Play the game you want and let others play the game they want. Sounds very Gatekeepy.

the real complain here is
why cant they be consistent?
It’s sad when someone’s peak accomplishment is getting attuned to hyjal/bt because there’s pretty much no personal effort involved. Congratulations on playing at a time when everyone else was doing the attunement process but that isn’t the case now so goodbye attunements.

I’m confused.
Why do people like attunements exactly? First time, going through a story sure, whatever learning the lore. That’s fine.
But why do you seem to act like if there aren’t artificial roadblocks from letting people walk into a raid, that the game itself is inherently worse off for it?
I thought people -hated- the gating mechanics of Retail? Why are you so happy with -this- gating mechanic?
It feels more like you just want to keep people out of places for arbitrary or personal reasons, which is unrealistic.
This is a really dumb… I can’t even call it a hill? A really dumb flat plain of land to stand in the middle of and scream about.

People like attunements because it makes them feel special. The pro attunement people don’t want attunements removed because it diminishes their own self worth (which is sad).
The only other reason would be the forever faulty boomer argument of “I had to suffer so you should have to as well”

The “Champion of the Naaru” and “Hand of A’dal” titles are the reward for completing the attunements “when the content was relevant”. Classic has a fraction of the original player base, so attrition is more significant in Classic and gating “old” content behind attunements serves no purpose for the longevity of the game.
FFS … Onyxia still has her attunement.
Still not gonna PvE, you can’t make me.
