Preventing people from playing end game and capping growth on the game is a cringe system that was immediately dropped. Open the flood gates. The game is a joke, let new players hop into the game without issue
My personal experience on the matter:
I just came back to the game 3-4 weeks ago after a long hiatus (quit in p1), in order to start prepping for wrath.
I go to play my ret again, and figure, hey, why not gear him out a bit instead of just leveling profession bot alts and pvping (or at the very least my ret can smash harder with some pve gear)
3.5 weeks of trying to get my attunes done, they remained unfinished. Every. single. soft res pug I joined couldnāt kill a single boss in SSCā¦ Every last, gdamn one of them. And I would literally rather quit again than debase myself by paying other people to run in a gdkp in instances that drop almost nothing I actually give a damn about loot wise. I knew Iād finish stormherald 3 hours into this patch for a mere fraction of what nethers would have cost in a gdkpā¦ and Iām not about to listen to morons get salty about me not bidding on items that are a 3dps at best upgrade on a sim.
I did get a vashj kill for her vial when my buddyās guild needed bodies as they went to try and get another 100D belt in raid, but after my experiences with SR pugs, I wasnāt even going bother at all outside of rare situations like that. At least with the current tier being open, perhaps I can get less potato player infested groups and/or actually go for some gear that is actually a decent upgrade, though admittedly, thereās also going to be a tidal wave of those same people from my SSC groups now trying to get into hyjal/bt groupsā¦ so who knows if those will be doable outside of GDKPs eitherā¦ but at least I actually have something to do nowā¦ because even ZA gear isnāt really an upgrade save for the sword (which is a ~25-30 sim dps upgrade over stormherald) and the melee trinket that will be a very hot commodity. I donāt even really care about the super ugly bear from the timed run, tbh. While BT and Hyjal actually have upgrades, and I can work on hyjal rep for the gem patterns.
TLDRā¦ I wasnāt attuned, and wasnāt going to suffer through the atrocious pugs it would have required to get attuned, so imo this change was a good one, as maybe Iāll actually raid now, where before I was basically going to do nothing until maybe the sunwell tier.

If they did this a month into the releaseā¦then I could see your point.
Weāre nearly 9 months in and T5 has been nerfed to the point that any half-conscious guild can clear it now and T6 feels like a big step back in difficulty. If you really looked back on original TBC and couldnāt wait for the attunement ācontent,ā Iām assuming youāre already in T6 raids on at least one, if not more, characters. At this point in the game the decision only makes the it more alt and returning player friendly which can only serve to increase the strength of the game.

the people fine with it are casuals or returning players who have toons in boosted gear wanting gear with no work or effort f that do the time and work for it like the rest of us

Really the attunement is just for getting up to speed on whatās going on in Outlands and your role in it all. If you already know whatās going on and have geared up then have at it! But if you are new to the game or lost then attunement is what you seek before you join raids.

I still do attunements for lore,fun and some extra gold
