One of the first posts I saw in guild was a raider asking for crafters to make them bags with their Netherweave cloth with intent to sell them. As a crafter I have issues with non crafters getting final product made for free with intent to sell for personal gain. A fair trade would be sell the materials to the crafter at a discount price so both make profit. Instead the person wants cake and to eat it too. By letting the non crafter sell bags, you leave yourself and other tailors nothing to sell. As well, I usually see the random bag likely from this source being sold for as much as half price on AH like they are just selling the for the value of the cloth they used to have a bag crafted for free.
Why would a crafter make things for a non-crafter to sell? How do other feel about it. Please say if you are a crafter or a user of the crafter.
I think this comes down to whether the crafter knows what is going to happen to the product. I might make some bags for a guildie if I thought he was going to use them. I also might help out a guildie that is low on funds. "You go out and farm all the mats and I’ll make a few for you to sell to help you out.
That is called being a friend. I wouldn’t however just churn out products for someone to continually reap all of the rewards. Doing that would be undermining my own ability to profit from my profession.
I make bags to sell, but I will also make bags for guildies to use, and if I see them selling my bags, I will refuse to make them more unless they give me mats and tip. It’s only fair, as gold is not easy to make until you hit higher levels.
I feel pretty neutral about this. I guess I wouldn’t mind if it’s a one time thing, but I definitely wouldn’t blame anyone that told the guildie to level the profession themself.
That said, yeah, it’s inconsiderate to do that without at least tipping or something.
