Like the title says, what did you guys think about the Meta rune in phase 1? Was it successful as a tank form in your eyes? If so, why? If not, why not?
Me personally, I didn’t tank in the BFD raid, but I did tank a few SFK runs.
In my personal Opinion: I think the Meta rune is really good, but it feels like it’s missing something important from it’s tool kit. I couldn’t say what that is, other than that the Meta Tank feels like it isn’t as good as Warrior, Shaman, or Rogue Tanks.
I couldn’t why that is, other than a general sense of poor mitigation against casters due to a lack of interrupts, and some difficulty maintaining threat on a large crowd of mobs. Also, I felt like it scaled better with gear, but if you were poorly geared you were not going to be able to soak up as much damage.
Of course, this could just be me, which is why I’m asking you guys: Did you guys feel the same in Phase 1?
Of course, this could change in phase 2, but I couldn’t say how, other than using hellfire, despite having to go deep destro to make it viable. And even then, we still don’t have much in the way of interrupts.
Aside from lack of AoE, yes it was a successful rune.
Next phase it seems we will get AoE and a Immolation Aura rune has been datamined. Not sure how the hellfire AoE will work this phase if we go deep Destro.
As someone who raid healed Warlock tanks I think they’re great and on top of it they looked really funny while they were doing it. kept me very amused.
Ya shadowflame could also be viable too but it’s a cone and we will need to see how much better TPS it does.
I was using my imp all of P1 as a tank because of the extra stam from blood pact and the fire shield is a better thorns. It stacks with priest’s Fort buff.
Will depend on boss by boss basis because you might not need an interrupt depending on raid comp as alot of other classes have interupts too.
I mean Warriors have interrupt, Paladins have a interrupt rune, shaman have a interrupt, other warlocks have interrupt, shadow priests if talented have a silence, rogues have an interrupt, mages have an interrupt, druids have an interrupt rune. Everyone but hunter’s have an interrupt.
It seemed pretty good to me, my mate was loving it, had more armour and more health than equivalently geared warrior tanks, threat also seemed really good, and sustain from Master Channeller helps survivability.
Seems to only get better with access to Soul Link which will grant them a fairly free 30% passive mitigation as long as they have an active pet.
It does seem a lot more active than some tanks though as the lack of AoE results in much more active target swapping and DoTing/Searing Pain spamming.
Looking at the Master Demonologist talant, it looks like Voidwalker is gonna be the best pet for increased physical mitigation, while Felhunter will be best for magic mitigation.
At plus 40 resist points, it should be fairly decent when combined with Soul Link.
that will go fairly well with using the felhunter for inturrupts.
That was the case in Classic Era, we don’t know if it’ll be the same in SoD. I’ve heard that blizzard will be adjusting talants.
Issue is healers almost never heal your pets and Soul Link doesn’t transfer healing to your pet either. You pet will likely die quickly into the fight as a MT. EDIT: Also your pet doesnt have avoidance so will take 100% of the AoE damage too.
Assuming that Siphon life is still terrible the next best build will probably be to go Demonic Sacrifice and sacrifice your imp for 15% increased fire damage.
I contest that with the idea that if you go with fel stam, imp void, and fel dom you’ll always have the option to sac your void walker, then resummon it.
Also, you can have your raid lead put a symbol on your pet to get your healer to heal it.
The pure mitigation of a soul linked voidwalker mixed with master demonologist is worth it in my eyes.
Most healers click their raid frames and most UI addons don’t show pets. Will be a pain for the healers and it will essentially be an 11th player to heal instead of 10.
We’re already at 55% physical damage reduction from armor, an extra 10% physical damage reduction (master demonologist only does Physical Damage reduction) for a total of 65% isn’t worth it especially as you are already crit immune from Meta.
Perhaps, but i’d still contend that it’s still worth it in some situations, in particular, when you’re not as geared and need the extra mitigation.
In either case, Soul link is still gonna be at the center of discussion when it comes to the evolution of metamorphosis in phase 2.
Soul Link is just way too powerful to ignore, even if most people end up ignoring it for most of phase 2.
In phase 3, however, people will definitely be looking at it as an option.
Edit: also, you’re forgetting consume shadows, which is the voidwalkers self heal. Additionally, you’re mainly just gonna be using the void walker as a meat-shield and not really use it for doing damage.
Even with pre-raid BiS in BFD we were at 50% armor, its not going to be an issue at all in any content.
I’m not denying soul link isn’t powerful, it is VERY powerful… so long as your pet stays alive. Issues is your pet is going to die and healers aren’t going to heal it.
Re-read consume shadows, last line of text “cannot be used while in combat”.
