Asking Fellow Warlocks: Do you think the Metamorphosis tank was successful in Phase 1? Why/Why not?

Even without pre-raid bis and just quest gear I was already over 40% armor. Good enough for dungeons.

Except UI doesn’t show players pets in the party UI, same with raid UI unless you toggle pets on. Issue is most healers use an addon to change their UI and pets aren’t shown.

To heal a pet for a healer is something they would need to manually click on, not going to happen.

In dungeons it’s worthless, and raid trash is not an issue either. Raid bosses will simply destroy your voidwalker.

Let me introduce to you a spell that everyone has been saying is horrible but really isn’t:

EARTH SHIELD.

Pay off your local Resto Shaman and you too can be the proud owner of no spellpushback on your hellfires!

… ok dude, play it your way, but you’re not convincing me.

uh, except it can if you specifically set it up that way, which is the case for both grid2 and Z-perl unit frames, which is what I use, and I can have all the time before the start of the raid to request that my healer set it up like that. thanks.

Also, you can always health funnel.

Uh, isn’t the point of threat is that you threat the target off the dps? cant you do the same to your void walker? Also, can’t you plant your void walker far away from the boss so that aoe doesn’t damage it? Seriously, you have so many options to deal with that.

Excellent!

Offer only viable for horde warlocks, SoL alliance.

Well do you have metamorphosis? equip the rune, use it and check ur armor.

Most healers simply won’t, to much effort for them.

Pushback from attacks and channeling/casting removes your chance to dodge/parry/block attacks. Not viable when in combat.

Bosses will destroy your voidwalker from soul link giving 30% of the damage you take to it.

Healer here, rshaman main in wrath and rdruid main in SoD. Healers that are worth their salt use pet bars especially at lower levels and in smaller raids where it matters.

In wrath I basically ignore pets as they are self sufficient and their owners have viable self heals that are insta cast. This however is not Wrath, I know that and I adjust. Other healers should as well.

Uh, healers in my guild will if I ask them, they’re nice like that.

Need I remind you of EARTHSHIELD? Cause I’m horde, and i’d be rolling with a restro shaman. Dude.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… physical damage reduction from meta armor buff plus master demonologist +10% physical damage reduction? Have you seriously not been paying attention?

I love you. And I agree with you. People should have more faith in healers.

Even better when/if Felguard is released, as the datamine info showed it benefiting from the talented effects of all pets, so you should get all of the damage bonuses, damage reduction, and magic resistance bonuses from Master Demonologist if it works correctly.

Cool but 90% of heals likely won’t. Those who do are awesome.

Not everyone is Horde, also I’m talking in general with warlocks.

55% compared with 65% reduction isn’t worth it. Even with base greens you are still already at 40% and we have Paladins tanking with 2 hands in BFD with no shield with less armor and they are fine (and don’t forget about DW warrior tanks in Classic Era which also have lower armor).

The 10% physical damage reduction isn’t worth it, you will get more milage out of Felhunter’s Master Demonologist resistance buff (until it dies).

For Soul Link imo to be viable 2 things need to happen.

  1. Pets have Avoidance so they take 80% less aoe damage
  2. Warlocks have a rune which passively heal pets based on damage they deal (like in WotLK).

Without both Soul Link (in PvE) is just going to suck and you will be better off using Demonic Sacrifice.

Assuming that happens you will still want avoidance and pet self heal, if that doesn’t happen Felguard is going to die just as fast. For Phase 2 Soul Link isn’t worth it.

I was talking about how your physical damage reduction will affect the damage you share with your pet via soul link. Given that the damage will be significantly reduced, it’s more likely your pet will survive most encounters, and if it dies, it’s still helped with absorbing a lot of damage over all.

Edit: to add on to that, if your tankest pet with bonus stamina from your fel stamina talent is dying in boss encounters from Just that damage absorption, the boss is probably overtuned and is gonna get nerfed anyway.

Except not all damage you will be taking is physical, alot is Magic damage. Like Kelris in BFD who also does magic AoE like Shadow Chains. Also alot of magic damage in Gnomer too.

Pets simply aren’t going to survive long unless you have a god tier healer who is healing them but heals focusing on a pet could cause issues for the raid as a whole.

And given classic and SoD’s history of damage done > damage mitigation means Demonic Sacrifice with Imp/Succubus or deep Destro with Ruin and improved searing pain will probably be the best builds and Soul Link simply won’t compete.

In that case, get out the felhunter for all that magic resist, plus interrupts, plus magic buff consumes.

In either case, we’ll find out when the meta heads figure out which build is the best for tanking.

and by meta i mean the metagame.

And I’m telling you it won’t be Soul Link because were already extremely tanky as is and don’t need the extra mitigation. Lock Tank’s only issue is lack of AoE (which P3 we have a Immolation Aura rune datamined, and Shadowfame might be something we use the meantime especially if we are sacrificing our pets) and down the road with fire immune dungeons/raids (unless we get a run which makes our searing pain do Shadowflame damage).

WhAt EvEr YoU SaY…

Shadowflame is trash and hits for almost nothing. Soul link will be fine, a single HoT every now and then on the pet will keep it topped. Felhunter can frequently heal itself via devour magic.
