[Asia] Global server - SEA region?

I created a WoW starter account in the Asia region and I saw there’s a Global region as well in the game when choosing a server. Is this Global region for all players in Asia or is it dedicated to Taiwanese/Chinese(-speaking) players?

Also, when I created the starter account it was a little bit strange that it assigned the account to TW (Taiwan) instead of the whole Asian(+SEA) region.

If this Global region is targeting Taiwanese/Chinese(-speaking) players, then gamers from other Asian countries might experience a language barrier thus making the gameplay/teamwork not that good.

Would it be possible for Blizzard to create an English-speaking Asian region/server, let’s say in Singapore (Overwatch2 already has for a long time)? I think the SEA gaming community is big but a little underrepresented. We’re kind of forced to play on OCE realms. The latency is around 125ms and the timezone difference makes it even harder to play during peak hours.

I think the Global region (in Taipei) would be okay too if Blizzard can’t set up a WoW server in Singapore. My latency is 80ms playing from Bangkok and Taipei is only +1 hour so the timezone is almost the same. In this case maybe you could divide the Asia region into a Chinese speaking realm and an English speaking realm instead of one single Global (which is probably targeted at Chinese-speaking players). So the language barrier wouldn’t be a problem. Players from SEA region could play on the English Global (?) realms and Chinese/Taiwanese players could play on the Chinese Global realms.

The best (and maybe the easiest?) still would be to open a WoW SEA region/server in Singapore and SEA players could just play here with a low latency (40ms). Just like in other Blizzard games, like Overwatch2, we already have a server here. Why is Blizzard not considering to open a SEA server for Classic and Retail here too? I’d love to start over, buy it again, boost again… whatever… for the sake of good latency and no timezone difference.

Thanks.

Edit: When NetEase/Blizzard decided to shut down the Chinese servers, Blizzard reacted fairly quick and opened the Global server in Taipei. S.Korea also has servers dedicated for Koreans. Overwatch 2 has servers in Singapore for SEA players.
Genuinely asking: is there a specific reason why Blizzard can’t open WoW servers (Retail + Classic) for SEA players in Singapore? It’d be awesome if there was a PVP realm for WotLK:C and a Normal realm for Retail. And then we could assess the WoW population in this region.

Edit2: Since SEA is considered part of the Americas region, maybe the “easiest” solution would be to add another SEA region next to US West, US East, Oceanic, and set up the server in Singapore? I think it works like this with Overwatch too.

That would be a good suggestion for you to post on the SEA forums since they have very different policies and procedures due to regional laws and such.

I don’t think there’s a SEA forum :frowning: I can’t find it. Only EU, US, Korea, Taiwan…

Unfortunately, if there is no forums for the SEA region, then there is nothing that can be done in this forum as suggestions and feedback are not taken here, nor passed on to the people who can make such decisions for the game. With the China issues for Blizzard games, your best bet would probably be the Taiwan forum since that would be the most likely place to post a suggestion.

Actually the SEA region is considered to be part of the Americas region so I’m supposed to post on this forum. Now I checked the support page and the Americas region has Thai language too (besides English, Japanese, Spanish etc).

The other regions are EU, Taiwan, Korea and China.

I just hope that whoever is responsible for the realm/server/region topics will see and pass along this message.

Hopefully u were constructive as the saying goes u attract more flies with honey then vinegar.

If it’s worth it for Blizzard (meaning there are enough WoW players from SEA) then probably the “easiest” solution would be my second edit on the original post. OW2 clearly has enough players to have a dedicated Singapore server but I’m not sure about WoW, only Blizzard know the real numbers.

When i say constructive you need to come off as reasonable not not that im saying ur saying hey BLizzard u better do this and not give any reason they will listen if its reasonable and not demanding.

You could say hey look it seems like to me that ur disreagarding a a whole demographic by not includign a SEA reagion aside from EU oceanic and NA im sure theres a big enough demographic to invest in one can you maybe consider it please.

This one, exactly.

I think if we look at OW2 (CoD/WZ too) numbers in SEA, and the fact they started localizing social media posts and their games’ websites, these are great moves and are very promising. I really really hope that the next step is setting up the SEA server for WoW.

i thinks there’s only 2 regions in Asia wow,
KR(korea) and TW(taiwan).
CN(china) region is a totally isolated one from the world so we’ll skip that one.
that’s why your account is assigned to TW.
TW only for taiwanese people ,hong kong people, and macau.
players there only speak chinese.
so is like KR , there are only korean players there and they only speak korean.

there were only 2 servers on TW region 2months ago.
now there are several, that’s because of the shutting down of china blizzard.
tens if not hundreds of thousands of CN players went to TW region.
so the Global region is like 99% for chinese players.
i’ve been playing on TW servers for some time and I have not seen ANYONE that speaks any other language other than chinese.

There is no CN region anymore.

I would resurrect my account that I played for many years if the latency for an English language server was playable in Thailand.

We moved to Thailand early 2022 and I’m waiting to see what happens.
I’d play Retail, WotLK, or Classic - don’t need Hardcore.

Any updates or progress?

Unfortunately, there are a couple of problems with this post.

  1. Customer Support is not a point of contact for staff as the forum itself is one for players to assist other players. Absolutely none of the decision making staff even come here, let alone collect data from this particular forum.

  2. Our SFAs, the only Blues you see posting on this forum, will not have any information regarding this as it is a decision made by the Dev team,

  3. This thread was created back in January. Anything older than a week or two is considered a necro and is frowned upon around here.

If you would like to offer your feedback and/or suggestion, I would advise you and whomever else may be in this thread, to post them either in General Discussion or through the Suggestion and Feedback interface in-game.

Have been waiting for actual SEA server for SG/MY/PH/INDO/TH players since 2017, actual SEA server, not OCE with 100ms~200ms latency

The post right above you appears to have a handy link to some info. Outside of that, the folks around here would rather you start your own thread and not necro one that seems to be over a year old. Good luck!
