I’m going to be honest here:
I still think “who cares.” Not because I don’t support your right to feel what you feel, identify as what you are, and to be free to do whatever you want.
I feel like we should shed gender as a concept all in itself. It’s just more ways to divide ourselves up into little boxes. I think abandoning the gender binary is a first step at this, but I think the end result should be genderless.
Decouple the concept of gender from activities, features, personalities, mentalities, philosophies, etc, to the point that there’s no need to feel like one gender or another. Everyone is free to explore the world in their own way without needing to be labeled as something.
Honestly it’s something that I’ve always found perplexing. Why do we even have words like “Waiter” and “Waitress?” What does the gender, or sex, of the person who’s serving me food matter? How does it benefit them, or me, if the word informs me of that? All it does is imply a difference between genders and sexes, and that gender/sex is somehow a meaningful piece of information.
I don’t oppose representation in media, I don’t oppose any identity or sexuality, and I openly welcome any and all to my table, and will defend them where needed. I just don’t understand why this is even an issue to begin with. If one doesn’t feel like their gender matches their body, that tells me that we place too much emphasis on gender in society to begin with.
