I dont care about learning curves, I have a severe learning curve and im 100% fine with people learning on the go… stand in fire, die if you have to, it happens.
What I dont get is, tanks in particular, are chain pulling mobs without being able to hold aggro and expecting the healer to pick up the slack. Dying every third pull, not waiting for the healer to get mana, not checking to see if their DPS is near them etc.
What happened to tanks?
No healer is going to make up for your bad tanking this early on, it has to stop.
I wouldn’t be making this post if it were an isolated event, this is literally happening with 1 in 3 or 4 dungeons I run, too common.
Did it get worse or is it just me?
Question is; is there a way to ensure I never group up with tanks like this again? Or is that just RNJesus at play?
It’s not just you, but it’s also kind of expected considering new content, and damage scaling.
I’m pro-speedruns. I like wall-to-walls, and the crazy damage scaling in leveling dungeons was super fun.
HOWEVER
If the tank can’t hold the agro, and the people pulling the agro are squishy, then the tanks need to chill and gain control of the mobs, in order to AVOID the problem of dumping responsibility on the healer.
Most of my multiple dozens of runs I did while leveling went fine. But there were several where the tank literally just ran through and let everyone else die while he went and soloed the boss, acting like we were just npc’s in his single–player game.
Tanks, if you do this, please know I’m thinking very severe thoughts towards you.
I think the point was that some players play like they used to when they greatly overgeared the content when they really havent gotten there yet because … brand new content
What’s wrong with that? We’re in the very early stages of new content. This is the drawing board and people are learning how to play with new talents, new gear, whack scaling, and possibly coming back after not having played in a while.
I get the frustration, but making this thread was childish. It’s a drag thread thinly veiled as constructive feedback.
We are still here most just avoid the current blitz fest that has been going on in dungeons currently. I feel for you healers when I am on my dps toon and I see what they are doing especially when they pull whole rooms into one and stand in consecration that does a lot of damage and then they don’t even interrupt. I had to tell one tank to avoid the consecration and to start interrupting lol he tried to get me booted but it failed as he didn’t like my tone. He didn’t check the healer was there after he had them killed and didn’t wait for them to mana up. It is a crap fest atm but I assure you when I am tanking i think of my healers and try to make it as easy as possible. Dps are also an issue at times especially if they are due for a crit. Good luck hopefully with the changes that have been implemented your healing will be easier.
Tank here. There is a couple actual reasons behind this. (if the tank is a doing things properly.)
Tank pressure to pull and keep things consistent has been ever increasing. Many DPS classes have abilities that proc and are relying on the tank to get the next pack asap so that they can really unload. Think Clearcasting as a mage, or stacks that monks get for fist of fury. Often times waiting to long between pulls will result in a dps pulling for the tank which just causes more issues.
The damage to CC ratio. Most classes cleaves will fall off at either 5, 7, or 8 targets. although there are other classes that are able to stun/CC larger than that. The ratio comes in kinda like this. If you going to do the damage to just 3 guys. and there is another 3 guys just ahead that have the same amount of HP. you can pretty much kill them in the same amount of time if you had just pulled them together.
Often times tanks are able to find a nice little nook or cranny to LOS pull mobs into further ahead. This works really well if DPS dont start yoinking aggro immediately. Most tanks have some survivability and CD’s ready for this so dont freak out over their HP dropping so fast. Maybe drop a buff on them like blessings, or tigers lust so they can position faster without you getting more aggro on the group as a whole.
All this to say there does need to be some moderation in this. Quality tanks will know when its to much with a group. even a pug after the first pull and should be able to adjust accordingly.
The main issue here is that tanks have for a long while been those who have carried groups. From LFR to raids, to keys. We generally heal ourselves more than most of the healers can heal the rest of the group. We tend to land in the top of the dps. its just the truth of things. The sooner we can face the issue of expecting the tank to do everything and then some the better these types of issues will get.
