As a former Anti-RDFer who was ardently opposed

As some of you around here who’ve been around for a while may know, I was always adamantly opposed to RDF. I was always anti-changes, from day 1 before Classic even launched. Through getting tossed through server upon server and losing my name, formerly Confidence, now Confidenceyo, I spent countless hours writing comments on the pro-RDF posts thinking that the people in support of them were wrong, whining, and simply “looking for the next best thing.” Some may remember these “comment wars.” No one was more Anti-RDF than me.

We are numerous months into Wrath of the Lich King Classic now, and we’re past the first hype and Naxx-Bore dropoff. We’re past the Ulduar hype, and we’re well into Ulduar’s maturity phase. Trial of the Crusader does not look promising with regards to people returning to this game, as Ulduar was heralded as the great raid of WOTLK (however, ICC will see a return, as people will want to kill the Lich King). Regardless, we are seeing great dry patches. We are seeing destroyed servers that result in people having to re-role (I believe this is the proper usage despite “roll” being commonly used), re-gear, etc. We see the outcry for alts.

We’ve seen changes abound. Talk about Classic+. Haste for UHDKs, Ret paladins, Feral druids, and probably soon, Fury warriors. Ulduar released with Dodge completely broken, only getting fixed now. Who knows what change will be next? Let alone going into whatever expansion may come after this, it will be an alternate universe to whatever “Classic” may be, and Blizzard will likely be implementing balancing changes every few weeks.

In the past, when I was taking the Anti-RDF position, I was using much speculation. Sure, we had some data, from WOTLK itself, from the retail expansions that followed and the precedent that was set, but much of my argument was speculating what MAY HAPPEN in WotLK Classic if RDF was implemented. To this day, we still have no evidence, as it has not been implemented.

I wanted an authentic experience. To me, no RDF was the authentic way, despite it existing for slightly less than half of WotLK originally. But as time and Blizzard have shown us, the authentic experience means nothing. Moreover, the abundance of Private Servers for 15 years developing, changing, and perfecting metas has forever ruined any chance at an authentic experience. AddOn technological advances and simming has ruined any chance at an authentic experience. The Retail Mindset has ruined any chance at an authentic experience. Streaming, perhaps, more than anything, has ruined any chance at an authentic experience through perceived meta slavery and the creation of organic keyboard robot clones. No RDF was, to me, a way to recreate an authentic experience. But it is clear we are going to get NONE of the authentic experience.

So, after much contemplation, about half a year of WotLK Classic’s existence, and hundreds upon hundreds of posts across numerous iterations of this same character denouncing RDF, it is time to put my pride away.

Again, I wanted an authentic WotLK experience. I didn’t want changes, even going back as far as Vanilla Classic. But we got changes. With, and without Blizzard. The playerbase is perhaps the biggest change of all. We see bi-monthly balancing changes. If changes are going to happen, I must accept they’re here. And I accept that I’m not getting a recreation of Wrath of the Lich King. 41/5/25 rogues are a thing of the past because we got the 3.2 Envenom change. We’re in the last patch of WotLK.

I was wrong for thinking things could be the same. Even the playerbase isn’t the same. Blizzard has sure decided they’re okay with making whatever changes they please.

So, keeping that all in mind, it is time for me to publicly modify my position.

I am still totally Anti-RDF, but in the vein of Blizzard being okay with whatever changes they feel like making regardless of whether or not it was consistent with original Wrath, let’s NOT add RDF into the second half of WotLK Classic, either, and never add it to any iteration of Classic going forward. I now accept #somechanges for the disgusting pile of sludge you’d expect to come out of a New York politician’s mouth that it is, and realize it’s going nowhere, despite my original wishes. So while we’re making changes, please Blizzard, never, ever add RDF to this game. Not in ICC, and not beyond that.

“I used to be anti RDF but am now changing my stance on it. I am now anti RDF but with a twist”.

Is that the tldr?

I am bumping this so other people can suffer reading all of that which I of course did not do in the slightest

Go to Classic Era if you never want to see RDF.

Roll works better because it’s a hold over from pen and paper games where you had to roll dice to generate your characters starting stats.

It’s hilarious that you’ve come to this conclusion, but can’t see the logical outcome of it.

This just sounds like spite.

Wishing wow classic all the best and it gets to even MoP classic if not WoD…later retail shows why RDF exists.

all the bitter vets have their alt army. Their leveling is only top end. When even MoP comes…they’d touch up the cata say hunter those last levels. Or wake up that wrath 80 rogue or something.

Just like retail. LFD collects up those 4 low level people on that server, 3 on the other, 7 on another. And places them together. as many in retail at this point don’t really need to make levels 1 to 60’s.

I know for me I am done at that area of the game. Now if we got void or night elf paladins…then I’d level that for sure lol.

As classic grows (being nice I will have it get by to add more expacs)…its going to get even casuals like me who will not see low levels in droves. I have my 4 80’s…I’d work off them.

cata and mops lures to reroll level 1…aren’t the best. I am sure many like me have tried worgens, goblins, panda’s and monk class and not really liked them. those regrets won’t be repeated in classic for many of us I’d wager.

u prolly got the most of it but im not gonna read this novel to find out the twist so cliffhanger for me lol

RDF was in the original WoTLK.
Period.
Sure, it’s supposed to come in the ICC phase but its part of the AUTHENTIC wow experience.
I don’t understand how anti-RDFers can square that peg.

Not having RDF now is inconvenient at the least. Having to move all across the continent of Northrend to meet up to do a 10 minute dungeon just wastes time. Now move this forward to Cataclysm when dungeons are spread across the entire game world. There is a solid reason why this feature was created and why it will need to be implemented.

Ok No trolling No sarcasm I don’t even say it as a player I say this as a human being.

In 2019 did you Honestly think If that people were going to play the game the same way people played it back in 2004 ?

Knowing we have Over eighteen years of prior knowledge and people playing on private servers the game down to a science ?

Did the world buff meta What happened in phase too Fury prot people stacking rogues and warriors ?

People using logs and parses The moment those things happen that should have been a dead clue At the end of the day 2004 is 2004 You can never go back to it you can never repeat your the feeling you have.

The first time you walk into stormwind or ogremar It’s like riding a bike Or your first kiss You can never repeat it.

I think the way people play Games now and the player base almost borderline needs rfd That’s my opinion at least you don’t share that opinion Fine.

But I think it was extremely naive of you Just like it was naive of me I thought wen wrath Came out at least for Literally the easiest raid ter in the history of the game.

People would be less midmax Well I was completely wrong Which is a reason why I am saying rfd but ya.

Simple, they want to turn WotLK into Vanilla.

That be more okay, if we got that.

Lets start with remove anti boost to get there. The “old days” were more open to that.

not all of the 10 million+ before wrath (or cata) “ruined” it all with RDF were there for the journey.

Some had friends boost them. Wrath then did RAF to make it even better.

Or The main made money to pay for mage boosts.

Hell, I’d wager for at least a few hundred K of subs to 12 million was dual accounts. Self boost via dual box.

Or he could stay in Wotlk Classic as the devs have said they have no plans to add in RDF? Why would he go to a different version of the game if he’s satisfied with the current one he is playing? What sense would that make?

^^^^^
And all of your changes have proved it

Do you sell runs for gold?

I never wanted any changes.

What’s the retail mindset you’re talking about? I remember people being just as focused on simming, metas, efficiency, etc. as they are now. The only difference is that the tools are stronger.
