I think people have a responsibility to speak up for themselves if they need or want help.

No, i dont have that responsibility to help before its asked. I was raised to be accountable and to ask for help if i need it. That player might have the stats yet but know they need it and so on. If people want help they should ask for it.
Also on the mmo argument front that you have, the purpose of an mmo isnt a glorified chat room, its for people to come together to overcome obsticles they wouldnt be able to alone.
This isnt some isekai anime you so want it to be it seems.

The entire point of Classic first snd foremost is the Community, engaging with people in group chats and finding more about the people you play with.
