That’s called “too much free time”. Visit that room with the yellow ball of light with the blue ceiling and green things once in a while. Or play the stock market “AH” and make some real money.

This isn’t me - this is the guy who has close to a billion gold and guess what he is a day trader.
Not so much “illusion” but more of: I need to buy “x” do AH search and buy the cheapest.
I don’t look to see how much cheaper, I don’t care. They are all the same item so just give me the least expensive.
If it’s something I buy frequently enough that I have a sense of the market price I will hold off buying if the least expensive option is far above market.
I don’t get wrapped up in the idea someone who posted 1c less must be a dillweed and not buy from them because of it.

I would buy the higher priced. It’s a tactic that tricks players into thinking they are getting the better price when in reality they aren’t. Most players don’t look at the silver and copper numbers, just the gold numbers.
I see people complain about undercutting by 1c, by 1g ,10g, 100g, 1000g, 10000g. Its really getting old.
Undercutting is going to happen regardless. Get over it. People want to maximize profits, they want you to buy there stuff. And people want to get the best cheap deals no matter what.

typically I just use the price sort button it’ll automatically sort the list by price per unit as well as group like items together. so typically I will buyout the first 1 on the list of the particular item i want, or in the case of mats such as ore, herbs, cloth, etc, i buy as much as i can of the cheapest price per unit an then move up depending on how much i need.
When you sort for prices it shows up as the top and it’s almost the same price. This is why

To use your blacksmithing example.
If the market moves enough, let’s say, averages an auction every~2h then what the “gouger” should do is either buy all of your items up and repost them, but also buy out and gouge the raw material price up. So either you have to keep reposting and using up your materials, keep getting bought out or having to go back and farm raw mats. Trust me, you lose this game very fast, because you’re time constrained on mat farming, while the reseller keeps selling.
Ex: I post a piece of armor for 25k.
You post 3 items for 8k each. I buy them out. My piece sells before you can undercut me again and I just gained 75k worth in item value and made a 1k profit from buying you out(not taking AH cut into account right now). You keep undercutting, I keep buying if I deem the market is worth investing into and provided I have enough capital to support it.
Other way around this is simply undercut you by 1c and 1 piece at a time, having you and others repost lower and lower until I decide to buy you out and gouge the price back up.

The AH UI is so outdated, it’s difficult sometimes to figure out what is the lowest price/best deal. Especially on stuff that is sold in stacks of varying sizes.
I just let my addon tell me what the lowest is and go for that when I need something.

The best part is when others start posting things and the whole market shifted and stayed.
The other person said the exact same thing you did, they told me they would win.
It was costing me 1.5k to make an item to sell for 5-8 so they just gave me gold to deflate the market.
Also they paid me to lvl blacksmith to max

I let addons do the work for me. They suggest the cheapest. I buy the cheapest.
The lower one because I’m poor and it’s the first one to come up on the list.
I thought you were supposed to be undercutting by one copper tbh that’s what a friend told me to do… Is it scummy or something
