A little background:
Longtime just PvE with the exception of trying out a couple of different classes in Epics or Bags and leveling in Korraks over the years.
Decided after getting KSM to try some PvP starting this week. I’ve gotten a lot/most of my gear up to 636/639 so I’m not at too much of a disadvantage as far as that goes(I am still a bad regardless). Engaged in some WPvP, queued into BGB(1300 now) and have been having some fun even though I’m still pretty clueless.
I would like to try solo shuffle and want to get an idea of how accepting the community is to total noobs. Like, I just want to try things out and have some fun but not at the expense of ruining things for other people.
Just want to gauge yalls thoughts on this particular topic.
Turn off group chat, just have fun.
There are addons about shuffle that will help you pick targets, but some of the sweaty kids in shuffle can be very very toxic.
If you ever need advice on what to do in a situation after the fact just come here

I wish more people would be mellow within the gaming community as a whole nowadays but, just not like that anymore.
Long gone are the days of people being genuinely nice to others online.

I honestly believe WoWs down fall was catering to the idea of not needing groups to do group activities.
I still to this day remember don’t do Milkman’s pug raids, he’s a known ninja.
Dude couldn’t even get heroic daily groups.
Natural consequences to their actions was a glorious thing.

True.
It’s like I know if I suck or not. I don’t need you to tell me. I notice I’m 0-4 quite fine actually.
I’ve also gotten into the habit of just trying to compliment people when they make really good plays. Most don’t care but the few that do you can tell based off how they respond.

Admittedly, I can lose my temper at random times but overall I really do try to be kind to others; being nasty doesn’t do anything but make somebody feel.
I try to really give compliments to healers even in losses, like when I notice they did something particularly well

I’m not really going to sugar coat it, I would disable chat if you want to queue shuffle and just have a good time. If you don’t disable it, then you will 100% have someone come at you with toxic negativity. It might not happen every game, but it will happen frequently enough.
If you don’t disable chat, I would still refrain from replying to anyone in chat, outside of confirming who the primary kill target is. If you chat outside of this, you’re likely to get reported, and your account will get suspended/banned if you reply with anything that can be construed as abusive (e.g., even a “gg” or “nice try” will get you reported).
In my opinion the community is very unaccepting of new players, which is part of the reason arena has a serious participation problem.
You won’t be ruining things for other people. Just remember that the other dps in your lobby are at the same rating as you for a reason, e.g., they are not meaningfully better/worse than you, and try to have fun
Just to add to that, while I don’t really recommend LFG either, I do feel that you have a higher likelihood of finding some decent/accepting teammates that you’ll mesh/enjoy playing with and that will be happy to help you. You’ll likely have to sift through a lot of toxic players before you find these teammates though, and there is still no guarantee.
Good luck to you

Unfortunately. I can be toxic at times too, like last night on my warrior, I get a double mage lobby and in the last round the evoker healer said “hahahah sucks to be you” so I said oh you think it’s funny? And left the game. Idc enough about cr loss

Not friendly or welcoming at all. Like all pvp games, but especially WoW.
But, that’s what shuffle is for, so I wouldn’t worry about what other people think of your play whatsoever. It’s there to learn and practice mechanics and queue games. Shuffle is actually meaningless, so I wouldn’t be taking it seriously.
I’d just watch some pvp streams or videos to get the general idea of what to do. But, the only way to learn is to play. So, I wouldn’t worry about sweaters at all.
